315km/h MacBook Pro drop

Recommended Posts

Ok, picture this... it was a nice Sunday afternoon and the boys wen out for a ride... on some damn powerful motorcycles...

One of them took his brand new MabBook Pro 13" on his standard back pack...

When testing the bike at 315km/h, the backpack zip started to fail... and all of the sudden, the macbook flew trough the air... landing on the side of the road, beginning a series of turns and crushes from about 150 meters... while being torn apart.

the result?... see the pictures:

The best part... we try to make it work again.... and we could!!!

the hard disk, motherboard and superdrive survived! and with an external monitor, keyboard/mouse and new ddr3 memory modules... it booted!!

LMFAO.

Which just goes to show the build quality of those things. The frontal shot is astonishing to me. Sure the screen is gone, but the keyboard, trackpad seem almost perfectly intact. And for dropping it at almost 200mp/h, the laptop remained surprisingly rigid and the boot up was just the icing on the cake isn't it?

Nice story. (But poor laptop).

Testing bike nearly 200mph with backpack etc ummm

Gene-pool springs to mind...

Was it still in bag when dropped? Was it on concrete to tumbling sliding 150 m?

Let me clarify some things...

1) it's not may macbook, I have the same one but it's from a co-worker's friend. I just disassemble and make it work again. (and toke pictures :p)

2) the zip of the bag opened, and the macbook fell off, on the grass (side of the rode).... generating an spectacular dirt cloud...

It is a MacBook Pro afterall. Should have better quality parts than a 'normal' Mac Book. Like saying Dell Inspiron (or whatever they're called now) to a Latitude. Anyone who hasn't tried it, grab it with your hands with the lid open and try to squeeze it. On the Inspiron you're scared it's going to brake, but not on the Latitude

I would be interested to know what bike it is since not very many can do that speed.

oh, and they're all limited to 300km/h now

Since 2001, the major motorcycle manufacturers have been adhering to a “gentlemen’s agreement” to limit their hyper-bikes to 186 mph (300 km/h).

I would be interested to know what bike it is since not very many can do that speed.

Exactly as above and also wind, temperature, humidity all play a part at those speeds.

And also, 315kmp/h, you would have to be in full leathers and wouldnt be stupid to have a back pack at those speeds.

This is a low-end MacBook Pro, which at one point was a MacBook.

Either way, I can tell you a Latitude would not come out in one piece like this thing did...not even a Lenovo ThinkPad.

Apple's Unibody design helped a lot in this situation.

I'm very impressed. After seeing the pics I thought it was a goner and it would be some kind of sob story. Glad it works! ... even if it's through some indirect way.

But yeah, at least the pieces stayed together. If it were other PC laptops, chances are the parts would have separated and the connections would have been severed.

Maybe with enough coverage, Apple might send you a replacement. ;)

    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
    • Watch Louis Rossmann's recent experience on YouTube about trying to get a warranty replacement from Samsung. It's crazy.
    • That is the thing, how many of these people don't realise they are using AI? If they use Google Search they have no choice but to use AI. So yes, maybe half of American adults do use and I expect a lot of Uk adults do to, but I bet most of them don't realise it. Myself, i avoid the rubbish.
    • They use FREE AI. They aren't paying for this meme-generating slopware...
    • Gotta' buy that there Rufus guy a beer if I ever meet him. He makes good stuff.
