PS3 outsold 360 by 4 million in past 12 months

what? where did I say anything that refers to PSP?

Referencing to your 'too little, too late' comment. which i feel is the case with the psp.

Ps3 hardly equates to the 360 repurchase numbers.

Not quite the same when 360 owners are replacing their out of warranty RRoD units by purchasing new units.

Then there are the tons of people that never take a glance at a warranty and just assume buy a new unit altogether at first glance of an issue.

RRoD is covered for up to 3 years... YLOD is not.

Not sure how I didn't see this post earlier but Sony can chalk a ton of that up to the Slim. Look at how many millions of consoles Sony has sold due to console revisions and the Slim is no different. Microsoft finally caught onto the strategy so it will be interesting to see how many revisions we have in the future.

Why should people replace their older version with the newer ones? People say PS3 is expensive, but damn, if you have to replace your hardware during the same generation, you know something's wrong. None of my friends has replaced their 'fat' PS3 when the slim was released. They still work.

Look through those topics and see how many people are getting rid of the old X360's for the new one. The Gamestop deal also REALLY helped with this.

Only reason I got it was because of the Gamestop deal. However Gamestop also has plenty of good PS3 deals here and there. The main reason people don't tradein their fat ps3 for the slim is because in most case the fat is better. I have a launch 60gig and there's no way in hell I'm giving that up for a slim, ultra slim, bj machine whatever. Sony has made huge changes to their console whereas Microsoft hasn't really changed much at all.

that doesn't make any sense. I implied it's too late as Wii has the market share and Xbox has the mind share. Even if 100% of xbox owners have bought at least 2 xbox 360s that you claim, how does that explain Wii beating the **** out of PS3 (and 360 but that's besides the point) in sales? Last gen video gaming = Playstation in pop culture. This gen it is video gaming = xbox. In other words, PS3 lost the mindshare to Xbox 360.

Who's talking about the Wii. That's a totally different market if you ask me. Why bring it into the equation unless you're reaching...

And yes, sony lost most of its fan-base due to showing up a year late. The extreme price-tag didn't help.

So as I said, being they've said all along that the ps3 was going to be handled as being a 10yr project, the recent slim and pricedrops, and continuous flow of games appear to be winning back alot of those long lost fans.

Too late? Again, no. Thing's are just getting interesting.

No they aren't. Things are going along the way anyone with half a brain would've predicted. Anyone with a whole brain probably figured Sony would've (and should've) caught up by now, four years down the road, but that's not true and not going to be true until next summer at the earliest, so...yeah. There's nothing particularly special about this story except maybe to cement the fact that it took Microsoft all of half a decade to go from a minute player to a power at least as big as Sony in the videogame market.

I expected the current situation. I hoped for a change by no later than one year ago. Still waiting on that hope. And, MS did so even with the RROD.

So you guys predicted MS to lay practically dormant for over a year, allowing Sony to gain ground?

Sounds like they're even now eh? Sony started a year late while MS later takes a year off themselves.

Yea, totally saw his coming..

You have the most skewed outlook on MS I think I've ever read

Is anyone really going to lose sleep if their favored console isn't quite as popular as the competitor?

I couldn't give a monkeys. they both clearly have enough of a userbase to bring all the main publishers games to. Do we care if either are dead level or even 10 million behind the other, nope not really. I made my decision and so far this generation I've not been disappointed. This is without GT5 hitting yet. Same could probably be said for the 360 players with regards to Reach, which looks pretty awesome. If I was a FPS player I'd be pretty gutted at not having a 360 and missing out on it. As it is, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 blew all my expectations of what the machine was capable of last year and GT5/LBP2 look to do the same this year.

Who cares if people are buying more ps3's than xbox's.

The only people who would prefer a ps3 is people who preferred the ps2 to the first xbox. I had a ps1 and then bought a ps2, but I got an xbox shortly after it came out and it was a lot better overall and this has continued with the 360.

The main reason is xbox live, if your pair up ps3 online and xbox live, live wins everytime. I've used my mates ps3 and online is horrible.

1. No party chat.

2. Lots of disconnected games on cod4 etc.

3. lack of people with mics.

Also the new xbox will really boost sales.

Are you serious?

The 360 has continued to sell well, the PS3 is just chipping away at it and will probably equal, if not surpass it, in a short time. Plus with Sony's dominance in the Asian market, it wasn't really hard to see this coming, as others have said. I'm not using that as a cop-out or anything -- Sony has rightfully crushed Microsoft in Japan, and Microsoft hasn't done a very good job there at all, even if it is an American company. Meanwhile, Microsoft is doing well in America and decent in Europe, while Sony's doing well in both.

Again, though, this doesn't really affect anyone here on Neowin. Both companies are having good sales so far, and it's worked out well. Competition is good. Microsoft has pushed Sony, Sony has pushed Microsoft, and Nintendo's pushed them both. Works out well for us consumers, don't you think?

Nice now that the whole get-along gang got the APB and done patting each other on the back...

Yes, it is "sad". When the best thing on the 360 in 09 was an xbla game Shadow Complex, Forza and multiconsole releases such as AC2 and MW2, not to mention Batman:AA which one best 360 title , another multiconsole rls.

Sad, indeed.

I don't think MS has pushed Sony as much as they've gotten too comfortable with the lead they established. It's the Turtle vs Rabbit race... MS dropped the ball in 09. Sony simply capitalized.?

Just pointing out my original argument, These numbers don't surprises me after witnessing the drastic decrease in MS' performance in 09.?

Patting each other on the back? Get-along gang? WTF are you smoking?

I'm not sticking up for anyone. I'm stating my opinion. You don't like it, tough cookies. :p

Relax buddy, I wasn't waiting on you to reply nor was it directed specifically at you. But if you want to include yourself, that's also fine.

I respect your opinion. As well as agree with most of it.

5 years in and the PS3 is still behind the Xbox 360.

The new xbox will drive sales in the next few months, just as the slim helped sony out.

Lets not forget that Microsoft can afford to aggressively cut the price of their console. Sony is not in the same position mainly due to the blu-ray drive.

Once Microsoft feel the heat they will bring down the price even more...

Kinda pointless looking at the numbers though, neither of them will ever catch up with the wii.

5 years for PS3 and 6 years for xbox... catching up a year of sale is hard and ps3 is doing good now so i hope it will catch up soon.

    • Depends on what you need. Might be a bit clearer on what you plan to do with it. Sort of a waste if you get the newest and greatest, but don't know how to use it.

    • Hi everyone, I'm planning a small network upgrade and was wondering how others prepare their networks for future needs. Do you usually invest in higher-speed switches and better cabling from the start, or do you upgrade only when necessary? I'd be interested in hearing what has worked well for you and any lessons you've learned over time. Thanks!
