Hmmm... coming in 2011.

Man, if this gets released anywhere near Diablo 3 the investors are going

to be ****ed. <--Angry.

Just sayin'.

As great as Torchlight is, it won't be able to hold a torch to the profits D3 is going to see, just because of the brand name.

Pun intended.

I'd guess D3 at earliest very late 2011. We will see how it goes, I don't think Blizzard wants to release two of their games/expansions close to each other. It will be interesting to see when SC2 first expansion gets out, if fairly late then it will take ages until we get to play the Protoss campaign.

A very good Diablo clone, so this sounds interesting. :) Hopefully they'll now get the time to flesh out the storyline a bit. I'd like to see a mostly optional story, but one that's still there if you want to follow it more closely by talking to townsfolk.

I think that was mentioned in a interview, that now they do have hired a person that does story/writing, which they didn't have in the first game.

Ah yeah found it, it's in this interview on page 3;

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/08/04/torchlight-2-interview-with-runic-games/

We actually hired a writer this time out, so we?re endeavouring to have a coherent narrative, and to work that more into the quests that you?re undertaking.

4 player minimum for co-op is kind of lame IMO. Why 4 players? I have a good friend with whom I constantly play online games with, we know each other extremely well and work well together as a team (we use to PvP in D2 as a team and clear out duel servers with just us 2), we plan on getting Portal 2 for its co-op, and seeing as Torchlight is 4-player minimum co-op, I doubt we will pick it up now....good job Torchlight devs, you screwed up the co-op and the game hasn't even released yet. >.<

There shouldn't be any reason to require a minimum number of players unless it is player vs player (like FPS games), in an RPG style game, it should be anywhere from 1 to whatever your max player size is.

Where did you get that info? They are for example playing 3 characters in the teaser trailer.

Co-op is a minimum of four players, and a possible maximum of eight. Summons are a major factor in these numbers. Not finalized. (28:52)

It DOES say "Not finalized" so it could change, but if they keep it 4 minimum, you can count on my friend and I ignoring it.

Yeah, but its just badly worded. They are considering the max number of players. I.e. you could either be 2-4 or 2-8. They are considering how much it will affect performance etc.

It says in the comments that it is confirmed on the official forums even though it's not linked

@cccenturion I noticed you are on the Runic forums and this has already been answered for you, but it has not been answered here. But what they mean by "Co-op is a minimum of four players", is the minimum maximum will be four players you will still be able to play two, three, four... They just have not decided on the maximum amount of players allowed in a game.

Searched and found a topic on their offical forums;

It's not about a deep story, it's about smashing an endless horde of monsters in different ways and getting loot. Well that's what I play the genre for anyway.

Indeed. At times the game can seem too easy (even with the difficulty settings turned up) but it only takes one moment of arrogance to get yourself into deep trouble. Since my innate arrogance tends to usurp my mental discipline on a fairly regular basis then it keeps the game interesting.

i like when these kinds of games are mindless hack n slash instead of trying to make them hard in some way to appease a certain subset of players. when i play diablo or a game like torchlight(haven't played the first one yet) i just want to relax and grind hordes of mobs.

i also like how they let you cheat online in this one. i like being able to not worry about picking up loot alll the time and just stay focused on clearing each part of the map. may seem silly, but keeping scrolls of identfy in my small inventory and spaces for drops and taking time to compare stats on gear in diablo 2 really kills my buzz. i just want to set the lan game to 8 players, and duo with my bro on my barb while he plays his necro and spam hp pots endlessly while holding down my right mouse button in the direction of monsters.

then again actively looting stuff has become a real drag to me any game with item drops. i don't want to stop the action to pick up junk. just auto put it in my bag and let me sort through it when i go back to town. also don't make my bag so small that i have to go back to town super often either. let me spend most of my playtime actually playing the fun parts of the game.

Torchlight 2 priced at $20, final class revealed[

Torchlight 2, the cooperation-friendly sequel to the million-selling dungeon crawler, has been officially priced at $20 by Runic Games. That's the same price as the original Torchlight. which had a far lower profile.

"Everyone who wants to play Torchlight 2 will be able to comfortably afford to do so, and they'll be able to play with their friend online or via a LAN, or play single player offline, all with no further purchase," said Max Schaefer, CEO of Runic Games.

Runic also revealed the fourth and final class in the game, the Embermage, who will join the Berserker, Outlander and Engineer on an obsessive quest for better loot. We're sure they'll save the world along the way or whatever, but it's the loot that's important.

Torchlight 2 is still targeting a 2011 launch.

    • What people who support this position of LibreOffice do not understand is that EuroOffice is not made to appease the open source enthusiasts (I am also one) and evangelists. EuroOffice was made because some European companies wanted independence from Microsoft Office Suite, which is something installable on your computer. This move to independence was pushed by public institutions and governments in Europe, as well. Using a proprietary FORMAT as default, does not make you dependent on MS. The actual program does. A format can be changed with a simple update in the future in a dystopian world where MS would manipulate the format to lock others out. However, using MS Office proprietary format, guarantees that all the current documents used by companies, organizations, institutions, etc, will be compatible with EuroOffice and the suite will have the best chances at adoption, especially by slow moving organizations like governments and the public sector. It is as simple as that. For the same reason, even the UI is incredibly similar to MS Office. For the same reason (adoption) the choice was made to be open source. Not because EU particularly loves open source ideologically, but because it gives the best starting point to create trust in the project and amass developers and contributions to the project quickly, to catch up with proprietary projects like MS Office. I don't understand how people don't realize it.
    • How old is this tip? Seems 15-20 years old? Processor states for the CPU under Windows power options has been a thing for a long, long time. It certainly isn't new or hidden... Also, with laptops it doesn't make any difference what OS you are running, all of them are configured for battery longevity over performance, for obvious reasons.
    • I can't believe Starmer is still there...his party lost so big. He's a stubborn coot, but this is largely unenforceable, so I would imagine he'll be resigning soon. A key here is for parents to buy their kids phones sans Internet access--and set up the Internet at home, where mom and day can, you know, act like parents instead expecting the government to raise their kids.
    • EA launches in-game advertising platform for brands to "connect with audiences" by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The gaming giant Electronic Arts is exploring more ways to inject real-life brands into its games. Announced today as EA Advertising, the new platform is attempting to make it easier for brands to reach out for deals with the company and put their products inside titles like EA Sports FC, Madden, NHL, Skate, or The Sims. EA revealed that its EA Sports side of the company brings in "hundreds of millions of players across console, PC, and mobile" every year. Fan engagement of these titles was also touted as being "extraordinary," with 23,000 NFL seasons worth of games being played in Madden NFL daily, while EA Sports FC sees over a billion matches a day. “Players come to EA’s games and live experiences every day to play, watch, create and connect,” said David Tinson, Chief Experiences Officer at Electronic Arts. “That gives brands a meaningful opportunity to show up in ways that add value and respect the player experience, while maintaining authenticity in the worlds our teams are building. With EA Advertising, we’re helping brands become part of those moments in ways that are relevant and built for players.” Using the new program EA Advertising, brands will be able to inject their products into games in real-time via dynamic placement. EA says partners will have access to everything from stadium signage in sports games and targeted adverts to in-game content custom-made for the brands. These are described as additions designed to "enhance, not disrupt" experiences. "In these interactive gameplay environments, brands become part of the game itself, reflecting how players engage with advertising in real-world contexts," adds the company "Brands can activate across live environments, tailoring placements to meet campaign objectives, and update campaigns with ongoing optimization informed by aggregated engagement insights." Current real-world brand partnerships EA has built into its games include Visa (EA Sports FC and College Football), Lowe's (EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and College Football), Red Bull (EA SPORTS FC), Xfinity and Peacock (EA SPORTS FC), and Mountain Dew’s (College Football).
