Zoom7000
We have always had a annoying 2 domain setup on our site and we are finally getting round to migrating all the data to 1 domain and dropping the left over. I'm using the opportunity to rebuild all the PCs using RIS and putting them on to the new domain during the unattended install. Now, even though I gave the RIS user account I was using rights to "Join a computer to the domain" using delegate control on the "new" domain, it still won't add the PC to the domain. Not sure why, so I've had to try something else... I've setup RIS on the "new" domain, however, when I try to rebuild the PCs, they are not remembering their names as the GUID/UUID information is located on the "old" RIS Sever or "old" AD (not sure where!) Is there anyway I can migrate this GUID/UUID information from the "old" domain to the "new" domain, so it saves me having to manually rename 600+ PCs! :p Is the data held in a database file somewhere? (Both domains are running Windows Server 2003 btw) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/930766-migrating-guiduuid-information-from-1-active-directory-to-another/ Share on other sites
sc302 Veteran Posted August 18, 2010 Veteran Share Posted August 18, 2010 trusted domain and admt is the fastest way to do it, and seemless I might add. migrate users, groups, and/or pc's from one domain to another using the active directory migration tool from microsoft, for free. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6f86937b-533a-466d-a8e8-aff85ad3d212&displaylang=en Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/930766-migrating-guiduuid-information-from-1-active-directory-to-another/#findComment-593046028 Share on other sites
Zoom7000
We aren't doing a full migration as we are creating new user accounts (moving to a unified sign on solution with an external product). So, all I really need to do is move the PCs (or at least their GUID/UUIDs) Will ADMT allow me to just move the computer accounts? sc302 Veteran Posted August 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted August 19, 2010 it will allow you to move what you want/copy what you want between domains (some things can exist in both places at the same time). but you answer your question simply, yes.
