I'm glad you got it sorted! (Y)

That makes two of us!

I saw a whole lot of very similar responses to the ones you gave when I was Googl'ing the issue, and I really thought to myself how crappy it was that I now had an issue with my Ram after being so excited about installing the cards. I really think for some reason my motherboard just bugged out so to speak, as it really seems like resetting the ram in different slots was all it took. Very strange indeed, but glad it was just as simple as that after-all. Thanks again though, much appreciated for your super fast, and very helpful and thorough, response. (Y)

Okay, 3 AM, and I am beyond exhausted, I have steam downloading Metro 2033, the Kane And Lynch 2 Demo, and I grabbed the Lost Planet 2 Benchmark from Guru3D, so plan on checking them all out tomorrow.

What is the deal with 3D Mark these days? Is it still called that? I honestly have not benchmarked a GPU in years, so wondering what the best app to do that is? TIA to anyone can answer, and this is what happens when one is bored and restarting their computer multiple times to make sure everything is okay...

460_Stylized.jpg

I definitely need some sleep.:wacko::rofl:

Thanks again all.

I hate you so much Larry.

Im holding out for a DUAL GPU fermi. I dont care how long it takes, I would rather get a Dual Card then SLI because im just a "single' card kind of a person.

But definitely if I SLI'd, these would be on that list. I have been looking at the SLI articles, and the tomshardware one you posted also sold me on it too.

Haven't people told you.. The more the better?

But yeah Larry, it's been a quite of Journey :D. I would really think that you were so excited you couldn't sleep! Cause that's what would've happend to me  All in all, awesomeness! (Y).

The Unigine Heaven benchmark is pretty dam good too, and it will stress out your cards lol

Cool, will give that a whirl.

Yeah man, it indeed has been a Journey. I am glad it is over, although I am still exhausted LOL

looks very sexy man.

you'll have to load up on all the latest dx11 benches and compare notes with me.

what cpu do you have feeding those bad boys? is it OCed? i have the same mobo(758?)

Will do. (Y)

Just a 920. I OC it from time to time, but right now just on stock. Have a feeling I will OC it again much sooner than later. But thanks for the names of the DX11 benchies, I already have Lost Planet 2 one but will grab the other 2 when I can.

If video cards get any bigger you will one day be buying external cards that come in thier own tower and connect to the back of your pc tower.

These cards are actually small compared to my last card. Which speaking of...

I probably will start a thread in Neobay, but it looks like now I might have an XFX 285 GTX for sale. It is in great condtion, I never OC'd it, and it has the double lifetime warranty so whomever picks it up you get the full warranty. I am thinking it would be ideal for someone who already has one GTX 285, can SLi them out, but it also is a great single card, I never had a single complaint when using it, in fact I loved it, I just wanted to make the jump to DX11, etc. So if anyone is possibly interested in purchasing that GTX 285, PM me, like I said though will probably start a thread on Neobay as well, just leaving for vacation in a week so might wait until I get back.

the 460 is actually really small compared to other higher end video cards, or so it seemed last time i payed attention to comparison pics with one of them side by side a 480 or 5870 or even a 5970.

then again looks at the 5970 ares. that thing is monstrous.

Will do. (Y)

sweet sounds like we have nearly identical rigs except for the video cards.

I came to this thread for boobies. But I'm pleased anyway.

I totally missed this response. I take that as a compliment coming from you.

Very nice Larry, sweet setup you have (Y)

Thank you sir. I am happy with it so far.

Cool. Do you OC your CPU?

And yeah, I was really actually quite surprised by how small the cards are. One of the reasons I went with EVGA was since it is my motherboard, I figured the cards HAD to fit in SLI. I guess it is silly, and all cards would, but I figured I would just be super safe about it. But I have a ton of room, especially since like I said I actually took out the Creative XiFi late last night. So far I like what I am hearing from the onboard Realtek, so may very well just stick with it. Will see.

no my system is at stock for the time being.

i'll post my bench mark screens later(well for heaven) i get about 72fps default setting 1920x1080 in stonegiant and i'll have to look at what i got from lost planet again.

Yeah, that Lost Planet benchmark is a BEAST. At 1980 x 1020, default settings I averaged 29.something FPS. When I set AA to 8X and DX11 to High, I averaged 27. something. So not much of a difference at all.

Wow, those are nice :D

Your computer is very clean and tidy inside, good job (Y)

Thanks. (Y) I am pretty obsessed with getting nice clean cabling, I would say I probably spend more time with the cables then I do installing the components. Actually I know for sure I do, which leads me to..

Off topic: What case is that?

The cards are killer though. :woot:

Thanks as well. (Y) It is a Thermaltake Speedo Advance. Crazy big, crazy heavy, but the CMS (Cable Management System) is absolutely amazing, the air flow is superb, I just cannot speak enough about how much I like the case.

you got evga 460's right? see if there is an "sli enhancement patch" from evga. join their fb fan page and check the post history.

in the lost planet bench i got 64fps, rank a. in dx11 mode, 1920x1080 all settings default. test a. i hit 120fps at the part the bench stares at the wall for like 20 sec for no good reason.

heaven21.png

the reason it's windowed is because the guy i was benching with's 5870 crashes in fullscreen in heaven 2.1 XD and don't mind it detecting my 8800, it's just the ppu but has always shown up that way in every version of heaven.

Very Good call. (Y) Not only do they have a enhancement patch that enables SLi for Lost Planet 2, but for Kane and Lynch 2 as well. They also have performance boost 1.1 for my cards.

I will go do that and see what is up.

I thought it was a little strange, as the lost planet benchmark was just reporting I had 1 460, but I thought maybe that was normal.

Thanks again for the info, and I will also grab those two other benchmarks app soon too. (Y)

word of warning wthe fpb, some people have been having issues with it, such as bsods, etc. not sure what the factors are, but for you withte sc cards it will only unlock fanspeed to 100%(from 80%)

and evga is definitely full of surprises.

So what motherboard do you have there?

Are they both running in full PCI-X X16?

if he has the 758(liek mine) one is 16x, one is 8x, which with these cards should not affect performance at all.

Just out of interest, if one of the ports was running in X2, would he notice performance loss then?

@treemonster how are you able to run dx11 tests on an 8800 which is not a dx11 card? Or does it default to dx10/dx9?

[edit]

Soz didnt read it all, you have a 5870? Didn't know you could have an ati with nvidia in same rig, I thought they didnt play well together?

[/edit]

most likely imho, but i've never seen this and if you filled up all slots on this mobo, say hyptothetically if it were running usb and sata 3(which reduces pcie lane speeds) he would not reach that low.

perosnally speaking about this mobo, the only and very minor compalit i have(which iirc i could fix easily) is the added boot time due to teh jmicron sata controllers looking for drives. it has the best bipos i'v ever seen out of the box. and lots of forum support behind it. ihave a little story about my building with this mobo but it embarrassing and tldr so i'll refrain from telling it.

it shopws up in heaven as my 8800 for some strange reason.

i do have an 8800 in my system, as a ppu, but obviously i could not run on those settings with it if it were my main gpu. nor would i get those results if it were that way.

i have a 480. can screenshot the gpu-z again if needed. :)

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). Other improvements Private relay access control via shared auth token Relay fallback notifications when a custom relay is unreachable Broadcast mode toggle in sharing settings Android release build fixes (split-per-ABI APKs, universal APK preservation) UI polish: mobile safe-area insets, dropzone layout, transfer progress animation Bug fixes for minification-related serialization issues and system tray icon loading What's Changed feat(relay): add relay status functionality and settings UI (a120cdf) feat(relay): implement custom relay server configuration and verification (51276c7) feat(relay): add configuration for private relay access and enhance observability features (48fbabf) feat(relay): enhance relay URL validation, display connection status (d4fffa0) feat(relay): add RelayChangeGuard component and enhance relay-related translations (16ba514) feat(broadcast): add toggle setting for broadcast mode in sharing UI (ca6d977) fix(relay): correct QUIC discovery port, pin image, templatize fly.dev (52a2ba5) fix: More broken serialization due to minification (67491a9) fix(android): preserve true universal APK across per-ABI builds (e9f256f) fix(ui): conditional safe-area insets padding on mobile (1182f0e) refactor(transfer): CircularRing component animation fix (944572b) chore(android): drop x86 and x86_64 release APKs, keep universal+arm64+armv7 (34ada0b) Download: AltSendme 0.4.1 | ARM64 | ~9.0 MB (Open Source) Download: AltSendme for MacOS | Android Links: AltSendme Home Page | GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
