My New Twin Lovely Ladies

I can't remember who makes it but it uses a high blade density fan which sucks air in to the centre from the two sides and then blows it in a 360 degree motion to the outside through the heat sink fins.

It uses the same approach as the stock Graphics Card coolers in-fact except that ATi and NVIDIA use a shroud to direct the airflow instead of allowing it to go 360. It's a very interesting design.

Thanks for the info. I may be building a new computer in the up coming months, and this heatsink looks pretty nice. But I have to do some research on its performance, which is now much easier now that I know the brand and model. Thanks.

No worries, I knew it was familiar because I was doing research a few months ago.. I was like.. I've seen this! .. I never got around into buying one for myself.. don't have the money.. Using stock cooler for now since I don't OC.

So what socket is that Heatsink for?

Do they do one for 1156?

EDIT: Just clicked the link... Answered my question :)

So... Is the fan Quiet?

Maybe? You should ask Larry that.. if you read my post above yours.. I stated that I'm using the stock cooler.

Sorry all, was real busy at work, and had no idea this thread was still going, last time I checked it was down towards the bottom of the HH, so I thought it had died. I guess naming it what I did on purpose worked. :shifty: ;)

Yes indeed, it is the SpinQ. Thanks Razorwing for showing them all. (Y)

It is actually really damn quiet. Even when I had the side of my case wide open while I was testing these cards, I could not really hear it at all. Basically the side fan of my case makes way more noise than this fan does. It is really impressive.

I actually had a different heatsink initially, the V1AX, and just an FYI to some people, do research on if the heatsink will fit your motherboard. The V1AX actually would not fit my motherboard as it hit some heatsink that was actually on the motherboard itself. So yeah, if you are thinking of a heatsink, my advice is to google your motherboard + the heatsink model. at the very least you will probably find a signature on overclockers forums, etc., letting you know it will fit on your motherboard, or you will definitely find posts saying it does not.

i personally like the sound card more then anything ;)

Which I currently am not using. :p Seriously, I took it out, as I hated it personally. the drivers sucked, it was annoying, and so far the onboard sound sounds just as good to me, as I only have a fairly cheap Logitech 5.1 system. So for now, I am not running the XiFi.

@ OP - did you consider a 5870 CF ? just asking, congrats btw

Yes, I considered it for a few days. But as treemonster pointed out, for the price difference, and for the simple fact I prefer Nvidia, I decided on these two cards. I am well aware of how well the 5870 performs, but for what winds up being the difference of same games running better, and some games running worse, and in reality not that big of a frames per second difference, I stuck with not only what I know, but what I prefer. I am sure ATi has made leaps and bounds with their drivers, in fact I know they have since my brother in law owns a 5870, but I just prefer Nvidia's drivers, etc.

Also, this sums up real nicely why I decided on these cards, especially the bolder out part...

The GeForce GTX 460 is without a doubt our favorite mid-range graphics cardgrey_loader.gif right now. However if you stick two of them together they become our favorite high-end combination, especially in terms of value.

So okay. I have a brand new question, and it is going to sound like complete overkill, but basically I am willing to try it if I can.

I could not help but notice with these new cards, that for PhysX there is an option to dedicate whatever card I want to it.

So let's say, just for fun, could I install my old GTX 285, and just have that completely dedicated to PhysX? Or would that completely throw off the SLi configuration of the 460's?

I am pretty sure it is the latter, as if I introduce a third card the other two cards will drop down to whatever it is, but I figured I would ask here just in case anyone knows the definitive answer.

TIA to anyone who does, and if I can do it, I will be trying it when I get back from vacation.

I found this..

guy has 2 9800GTX+ for SLi and 1 8800GTX for PhysX but it's a lot of trouble.. :s

It's the only one I can find.. on the SLi site it says you have to have 3 of the same or 2 different cards.

a 285 is a loot for a ppu. but...

we did some testing on the evga forums and it seemed a 260 added about 5 or fps in batman aa as a ppu with a 480(iirc). later evga employees admitted using a ppu could acutually lowed fps in hardware physx games.

myself peronally, the game i have access to is mafia 2 and i haven't don't enough testing with and without to be comfrotable.

my end recomendation: unless you want to play around and test it for yourelf, don't bother. the 400 serioes cards especially seem to handle high intensity physx especially well, and you'lll save power overall.

Cool thanks to the both of you for the fast reply. (Y)

I figured as much, but just thought I would ask. I literally will not even bother then. I found someone who is interested in picking up the GTX 285, so I will pass it on to them and let them enjoy it. (Y)

the last tim ei monitored my ppu(8800 gts 512) was on cryostasis and it reaches around 15% gpu usage. . unfortunately i don't recall if and what anyone has seen in a more intense physx game like mafia 2. i could bench it for you though if you want.

Yes you can use a third card capable of Physx. But gtx 285 will be an overkill, and it will consume too much extra power for nothing. Instead try to get a low profile card, like gts 250 and dedicate it to Physix while using 2 x gtx 460 in SLI mode.

I have the exact same cards btw, using them for 3 weeks and extremely happy with them. They are super clocked as yours, external exhaust evga 1 GB, didn't try overclocking them little more though. So if you play around with overclocking them please post your findings.

Sure, if you can get around to messing with it, I would be curious to hear the results, as I do plan on picking up Mafia 2 soon hopefully.

Nice. (Y) I doubt I will overclock them, but you never know, if I do I will definitely come back and post the results.

And not a bad idea at all, maybe I will pick up a low profile card, or just live with everything as is, it is a pretty decent setup as is.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
