So, I know many of you know about a small executable file that will hide the windows taskbar. I personally think that the taskbar is sticking out on my desktop and it's crampin' my geeky style, BUT... their's a problem. I need to get my try icons onto my desktop somehow. Maybe theirs a small program of directory that will let me see tray icons? I already know how to manage windows via Rocket Dock, so that's no problem; I just need help with the tray icons.

Any ideas?

Right click the taskbar, go to properties and tick autohide the taskbar, job done.

I used to do that all the time, but I've come to realize that the autohide feature is annoying and I can't stand having my taskbar at the bottom of the screen (I have it at the top), so often, when I try to close a maximized window, I'll end up going too far up and bring up the taskbar instead. :/ I thought their was a simple solution to this. Maybe someone else may know.

Why not just autohide it?

Why not go the whole distance and replace Explorer with another shell? Litestep, Blackbox, Geoshell... All good in their day, but a bit out of fashion these days. Nevertheless, for ultimate customization, they can't be beaten.

Also a fine idea. I've never tried drastic shell changes, but I've got nothing to loose. :D Thanks! I think I'll try this first. <3

Would you care to elaborate more on this? Sounds interesting..

Briefly, Explorer is Windows' file manager, but confusingly it's also the name of the shell. The shell is basically the desktop, taskbar, tray and start menu. Alternative shells, like Litestep, run instead of "explorer.exe", replacing the Windows GUI. They are usually modular (you can choose which elements you want) and highly skin-able. Google Litestep for an idea of what is possible. You still have all the functionality of Windows (including the Explorer file manager, if you wish), but with the ability to create your own personal interface.

    • I know I won't ever be using it to make my game. I'd rather pay real humans.
    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
