UFC 123: Machida vs "Rampage" Jackson

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't say that Rampage won though, certainly not convincingly at least. They need a rematch as requested.

yeah suppose it will happen sometime, Rampage thought Machida won so its got to happen

Meh PPV. On par with UFC 122.

- Quinton Jackson vs Lyoto Machida: WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? It was an awful fight, Machida stalled and stalled, got Rampage to the cage, stalled, got him down, stalled. It's like Machide pre-Evans all over again. And then Rampage won? HOW? Machida even got full mount on him. Didn't do anything with it but neither did Rampage. The fight was bad and the judges even worse.

- B.J. Penn vs Matt Hughes: Matt was clearly a sacrificial lamb to salvage B.J Penn's market value after his 2 losses. It was over at the first punch. Can't even say it was a bad fight because it wasn't a fight at all.

- Gerald Harris vs Maiquel Falcao: Another boring fight. 2 rounds of semi-stalling interrupted by cans of whoop-ass and then that 3rd round... they should both be cut for that performance.

- Phil Davis vs Tim Boetsch: Great sub. Phil Davis is on a roll. He just mandhandled Boetsch and put on a great fight.

- George Sotiropoulos vs Joe Lauzon: Not to take anything away from Sotiropoulos but Lauzon was gassed as hell. Sotiropoulos just had to dial it in and sub him. At least the 1st round was exciting.

* Matt Brown vs Brian Foster: Didn't watch.

* Aaron Simpson vs Mark Munoz: Didn't watch.

- Karo Parisyan vs Dennis Hallman: LOL? Seriously Karo, Dana breaks his promisse, let's you fight again and you lose in the first round. No surprise he got cut just after that.

- Edson Barboza vs Mike Lullo: It was like Faber and Aldo. Barboza just beat him down. Great fight.

- Paul Kelly vs T.J. O'Brien: Good fight. After he got the crucifix it was over. O'Brien didn't have the explosiveness to kick out and just got beaten down. A bit of a late stoppage.

- Tyson Griffin vs Nik Lentz: Christ... it's the Lightweight coming of Jon Fitch.

Now thats the old BJ, that was what we were used to seeing, shades of the caoul uno fight :D About time though, ive been a BJ fan for years and his last two fights just terrible..

Rampage was lucky to get the win, i wouldn't have liked to have been a judge scoring those first two rounds.. Immediate rematch seems the right thing to happen, Rampage just needs to mix it up a bit, 1 kick he threw the whole fight.

Like Rogan said, ive never seen a one armed kimura before, just brute strength forced that tap, pretty dominant fight by Davis. Pretty enjoyable UFC i thought, 2 judges decisions on the main card isnt bad compared to some PPVs..

It's a modified hammerlock, not a kimura. And that only makes it better because hammerlocks are rare in martial arts because they require a great deal of control over the opponent so he can't turn on you.

The worst part of the Rogan comentary was when he said "We call that a Zombie!" Take your 10th Planet Mumbo Jumbo elsewhere. Even Eddie Bravo admits that he made up most of the names on the spot just to put them in his book.

Turns out Maiquel Falc?o got screwed when he had the rear naked choke on Gerald Harris at the end; the round ended 6 seconds to early it's a good job he eventually won but still, it was the difference between him been a beast who subbed Gerald Harris in the first round to been insulted by fans and press who called him a disappointment etc.

Pathetic, the problem is an overload in fighters, they've got too many and it seems to 'make room' for the others, they're getting rid of fighters over stupid reasons.. Falcoe did even less than Harris, i bet he's still in simply because it was his debut fight, get a grip if you're good enough to get signed by UFC then ****ing fight like it, dont throw 1 kick in the 3rd round and then just stand there, putting out a good name for the Chutebox fighters, jesus.. ANYONE would want to fight a Chutebox fighter if they all fought like that?

To be fair it was his first fight in the UFC look at most fighters first fight in the UFC and you'll see the same he won 2 rounds then all he had to do was hold out in the 3rd if he would have lost that would have been it goodbye UFC; tbh I'd have probably done the same thing whose ever played a game where you're winning and all you have to do is wait out the other person same as poker when your on the bubble besides Gerald Harris had 2 rounds to do something and got his arse kicked, Matt Brown has 8 fights 4 losses in the UFC and just got his contract renewed.

Gerald Harris has been fired 3 wins by KO and 1 loss and he gets fired.

You're missing the point. It's because of the KOs that he got fired. UFC MW division is very deep and here we have a guy who has proven he has KO power, is down 2 rounds and spends the 3rd one just staring at his opponent? Had he tried to push the pace and swing for the fences he would still have a job. Also if a guy like Falc?o, a newcomer to the big leagues, could stop him like that, how would Harris fare against the rest of the top competition in the MW division? I know that's harsh but I understand what the UFC had to do. They are sending a message out: perform or else. I can only hope that Fitch loses to BJ Penn and gets cut. :shiftyninja:

You assume because Falcao is a new to the UFC he's not a good fighter he has 30-3 in Brazil; Gerald Harris tried to push the 3rd not much he can do if Falcao won't engage he looked tired as well not surprising considering he just got the **** kicked out of him it's easy to say just swing for the fences but when you have no energy and can barely move there's not much you can do, I don't agree with firing anyone who loses 1 fight that's just sickening especially while Dana sits there spewing out **** I'd love for Dana to try and do what these fighters do so someone can teach him some respect, if the UFC started firing people for not pushing and having boring fights then that's Koscheck, GSP, Anderson Silva, Fitch and half the welterweights and middleweights gone, what's even worse is after firing Gerald Harris he renews Mike Browns contract he has 3 losses in a row; Tito has 5 losses in a row and is still getting $250,000 a fight; Gerald Harris gets 20k

Yeah there was speculation about his agent holding out for a better contract, obviously hoping that Harris would put on a good performance and be offered a bigger money deal, clearly Dana didnt like the fact they played hardball and cus they flopped he hit them hard.

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
