Ethernet doesn't work anymore! (after VirtualBox)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I installed VirtualBox 3.2.8-64453 today for my Mac OS X (Version 10.6.4) and was playing around with it. Right now, what has happened is my OSX will not work with the Ethernet at all. I've done everything possible on my Mac to repair it, I've tried fiddling with all the networking options, restarting etc.

Let me describe in detail what happened.

I ran VirtualBox, decided to create an Ubuntu virtual system. I did pretty much what the setup asked of me and within minutes I was working on Ubuntu. Now here's the problem, a while later I decided to mess around with the networking options as my internet connection had died.

I tried shifting the internet connection to Bridge > Eth01 from NAT. Now I don't know if this is the issue, but now any Ethernet I try does not work. It registers IP, DNS, Subnet mask etc. but it doesn't connect to the internet via a working ethernet.

Help please ):

With Regards,

Sharad

Have you just tried removing VirtualBox? I knw that's a crappy response, but these virtualization apps don't generally tie in very gracefully with your system's networking. I remember when early versions of VMware Fusion would give some people problems like this.

Just keep the setting on NAT and it should work. When you bridge the connection, it creates separate ethernet interfaces on the Mac side. When I found out that it does this (I found out on Parallels a few years back) I decided I didn't like the idea and I switched back to NAT.

Sorry I can't really help beyond that because I never experimented with it.
