MacBook Pro wireless acting funky

Recommended Posts

I have a MacBook Pro '08; Airport is on, I'm using it etc. The following situation only occurs at my apartment, nowhere else. So it isn't user related.

When booting up my laptop and launching Safari (any browser for that matter) comes to the connection issue screen. I launch airport settings and have it go through its setup etc. Do this maybe 3 - 5 times all with the connection saying its full strength. My laptop will load the next page I refresh after it claims to fix my connection. After that 1 page, connection drops, the airport utility begins looking for signal again - then finally stays connected. Anywhere else its auto-connect and good to go.

By the way my computer (including 2 other Macs) is the only 1 that does this.

It's really rather annoying.

I have a very similar issue to this :o

I have full bars but no connectivity... or I have full bars - I can ping locally (ie my own mac 192.168.0.4 lets say) but I can't ping another computer on my LAN (Wired or Wireless...) reboot/kill airport few times and it comes back... :s

You mentioned you are in an apartment....are there several other wireless networks visible from your neighbors in the airport drop down menu at the top right of your screen? I was recently at a friends apartment and I could see no less than 20 wifi networks and I couldn't keep my iPad on her network to save my life.

A few things you may want to try if you haven't already done so. You can try changing the channel your wireless router broadcasts on. If you have enough neighbors that are all broadcasting wifi on the default channel that can help confuse your computers a lot quicker.

Also, in system preferences go to network, select the wireless connection and click the advanced tab. Here you will find a list of every wifi network you've ever connected to. Make sure your home network is listed at the top of this list (if it isn't you can click on it and drag it to the top of the list). This will ensure your computer always looks for that network first. This is important because if you've ever used a generic named network like "linksys" and one of your neighbors has a network by the same name it can cause more problems.

I hope one of these methods works for you. If not.....and you are not currently using an Apple wireless router, you may want to consider it. I know it's not a necessity to use an Apple wireless router with Apple products, but they do work great together!

    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know The ONLY thing I need to know is the price, which I know will be way higher than I (and most people) are willing to pay for a phone... so basically nothing here I need to know. PS: Nice job getting that Apple reference to a non-existent and unrevealed product as "competition" in there. Cheque is in the mail.
