Convince me to get a PS3! :-)

Recommended Posts

I'd argue that if you've created a thread to get people to convince you, you're either trolling or (more likely) you've already made the decision in your head to get one and you just want reassurance.

It's a great bit of kit. The fact that you're getting a blu-ray player makes it worth it on its own. Free online play is also a decent reason.

And as others have said, if you don't like it you can return it. But that won't happen. :)

Here some reason's why I like the PS3

  • Blu-Ray Player (That's upgradable to newer blu-ray standards, other blu-rays may or may not be )
  • UpConvert DVD Player
  • Free Online Play / Netflix Access
  • A lot more free stuff in PSN store (theme's, DLC, etc)
  • Can upgrade hard drive with ANY standard SATA 2.5 laptop drive.
  • Play all PS1 games

Now, my personal opinion

  • PSN+ (optional paid yearly service) is an add-on service, you can't really compare it to the Xbox live service. It's pretty different.
  • Facebook support on the PS3 is a joke, it's nothing more then a spam (push to facebook) when you earn trophies, buy something on PSN, and shows you if someone on friend list also uses facebook.
  • Outside of the free online play, PSN is not as robust as Xbox live, and there is not cross game chat.
  • Game servers are reliant on publishers vs Sony for example, so game online performance is more based on the game, not the service. My online experience has been pretty solid with the games I play.

Gran Turismo 5.

i was looking for this (else i would have posted it myself)

in all seriousness, to me, the ps3 is robust compared to the xbox (the rrod stuff on the xbox put me off)

best reason - sony has no issues with you swapping out the hard drive for another.

Until they put out a system update that bricks the console when you try to swap out the hard drive.

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
