Yeah, I would love a spellchecker for IE! IE7Pro used to offer those things, but the project has been abandoned for quite some time (the IE7Pro forum is now overrun with spammers).

I am always for more CSS/HTML and what not stuff (talking about the text shadows)... so I wouldn't mind that.

As for add-ons, it would certainly be nice to have a nice big community of add-ons, but to me, all I want is an ad-blocker, everything else is pretty much meh, as I really like Microsoft's new "Site Centric UI" philosophy, if you will. I think themes and such that Firefox, Google Chrome, etc. are downright pointless. They distract me way too much! I want to view the site itself, not the browser! The browser should be as out of the way as possible. Back on track though :p Sorry.

Like I said, for add-ons, all I want is an ad blocker (though I would disable it on certain sites, such as Neowin, I really only disable advertisements on websites that put so many ads on their website that the browser crawls like a snail...)

IE9 is still in beta, maybe they will add some more stuff... Maybe ;-)

Also, to the one who said they want Quick Tabs, they are still there, just disabled by default. You can enable it through Tools > Internet Options > Settings under Tabs > Check Quick Tabs

  • Fading effects on web pages
  • a bit more shine (I sense a bit of Metro in this UI) tab close button, stop/refresh/go buttons/address bar look very plain, as do the home/favourites/tools buttons
  • i don't like the loading indicator, the Vista-ish one in IE8 was much nicer
  • should look A BIT more native (not like IE8 or 7, maybe the buttons though)
  • more animations/transitions (e.g. tabs opening/closing)
  • standard scrollbars (W/ fade effects)
  • double clicking on the area beside tabs shouldn't open a new tab (its what bugged me about opera)
  • haven't quite got rounded corners right yet :(
  • i'm still seeing that dotty focus rectangle in places

Oh, and the feedback thing doesn't work for me, the WL Sign-in assistant doesn't work on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Ah! Remembered the other thing that I would like to see implemented:

On Opera (and possibly other browsers, not sure) if there's only one tab open and I close it (either by clicking the small x, or ctrl-w), it will open the default speed dial page. IE9 doesn't do this =( It just closes the entire browser.

If they do add quicktabs back it would be even more useful.

Also, please put the "notification bar" back on top. I keep missing it when it on the bottom since I have a 1920x1200 17in moniter.

OK, my 2c

I want to be able to put the tabs on a separate line to the address bar. It's just too crowded as it is, I either end up with a tiny address bar, or tiny tabs. Looks cramped and not nice to work with.

I want the separate search box back. Maybe it's just me, and I'm missing something obvious, but I just can't perform a search properly from the address bar. Here are two examples.

1) I want to do a google search for Neowin. I go to the address bar and type Neowin. The address bar unhelpfully fills in neowin.net because it's on both my history and bookmarks. So instead of just hitting enter as I used to do I now have to delete the extra first. Similarly if I search for Face, it unhelpfully auto completes that to Facebook.com.

2) I want to see what's happening with HP (who I work for), so I type HP in. After deleting the supurflous stuff again I hit enter, and I'm at HPs home page - great, except that I wanted to be at the first page of results of searching Google for HP.

That's just two simple examples where the combined address bar/search box just doesn't work for me. Is there some magic key combination where I can just type in what I want and it's submitted to the search provider I've set as my default?

Where are Quick Tabs? I liked Quick Tabs.

The UI looks just a bit simplistic. I know it's the first beta, but MSs recent history has shown that the UI is fairly fixed by this stage. The square box for the address bar, the address bar and the tabs are HUGE. Line it up next to FF4 beta, and FF4 just looks nicer, more friendly. IE9 just looks stark and too simplistic.

Well I use the default bing search suggestions. Say I type face in, and then wait for a second, the "suggestions" expand to include the bing search suggestions. Then I just select the one I want, either by using the mouse or the down arrow key.

+1 until a good ADBLOCK comes out for IE9 I will not use it.

IE has had an adblock for ages now. Just turn on in private filtering, look online for an adblock .xml list and import it.

Just tried that with both Google and Bing, same results, no help. I type in Face, and they both suggest things to do with Facebook. I'm not searching for Facebook, I'm searching for Face. If I go to google.co.uk and search for Face only the first result has anything to do with Facebook.

Ah yeh. I think Opera does combined search address bar the best.

If you want to search Google for face you type in "g face" and then the google search page for "Face" loads

Want to search bing? It's "b face" etc

And you can add any search engine you want with any letter.

Is anyone able to get the quick tabs to work with this new beta? Though the browser is fast even while running sandboxed i will stick with Firefox unless IE9 can add speed dial and ad block support. Also when you are running the browser sandboxed you are unable to add the tabs to the task bar.

Too much wasted space at the top of the screen.

No

1: Password management

2: Live skydrive bookmark sync

Its shorter than Chrome. Windows handles password management. Live Sync works on bookmarks.

I wish it had better Favorites Bar. It now sticks out a bit much. Best case for me would be an option to lose the text and drop the icon on the left of the Home/Fav/Tools icon.

Another vote to move notify bar back up top too. You trained us to look 'up' for how long?

A default "go to url" when you select plain text that contains a url. However -- there are a couple of accelerators that do just that.

Where are Quick Tabs? I liked Quick Tabs.

Quick Tabs are still there -- go into settings and Tabbed Browsing. Quick Tabs is an option (requires IE restart).

I've just noticed something about FF4 <-> IE9 interoperability. If you drag the favicon from FFs address bar you can drop it on an IE window and the page loads up. But you can't do it the other way round. Odd.
