Where did Ironman ever discount Move in this thread, let alone state he has Move? He posted an article to a midnight launch of the Move that had nobody there. Big whoop. The you countered with midnight launches are a joke, then he showed the midnight launches are successful and fun for thousands of people for the right product.

BTW, we picked up the Move bundle this morning. So far so good. It is a more accurate Wii HD (which is a good thing). My only complaint so far is there is a little lag, but no where as bad as the Wii.

Which game(s) are you experiencing lag in? Curious.

Disc Golf and Table Tennis so far. That is all I had a chance to play before my son and his cousins decided to take over the TV again. realmad.gif

When I get a chance, I am really interested in all the demos.

EyePet is freakishly interesting. Tumble is worth the purchase.

I've yet to really experience noticable "lag" on disc golf. Probably due to the fact that it requires the use of only one button and one motion. Table tennis slightly, but nothing that would hinder gameplay.

The lag hasn't hindered the game play. It's just noticeable. Hell, Wii is much worse, but that never hindered game play either.

Haven't noticed any lag but I've no doubt that it's there, there has to be 'some' lag no matter how you are sending the instructions.

Loving Sports Champions so far, had a quick go on the Echochrome demo last night too. Next purchase will probably be the Tiger Woods 11 :)

Have to get the patch for Eyepet too. Next decision is do I get PSN+ this month or just pick up a few of the Move games instead?

Well, Sony needs to sell it first ;) :D

lmao :D

Would be nice to compare it to the open night against the sales of Kinet... it will sell more that move I know it :p

And no midnight launches are not dead... I went to the WOTLK one in the UK... even though there is a Game/Gamestation/HMV Right next to each other they were all packed out...

I don't think anyone is saying they are dead, but really a controller peripheral isn't going to get the same pull as a Triple A title or new console revision release. I wanted the Move on launch, but no I wasn't going to be queuing up to get it!

Hil-ari-ous. Keeping that with my PS3 launch photo from HMV :p

As for the OP, it's pretty much a story of the tables have turned, when MS gave developers a dilemma with the HDD situation.

True words here. It's not like there is a back log of people looking to play Sport Champions or replay Heavy Rain with a new controller, that they are going to stand inline for it. Had Move released with some AAA title that required Move, I think it would have been a different looking line. Say GT5 REQUIRED Move (I know it wouldn't, but as an example), GT5 and Move sales would be off the hook, and the midnight lines for GT5 and Move would be endless.

What is HMV?

I already have the original eyePet, is that compatible?

Yeah there is a patch available :)

What is HMV?

HMV (His Master's Voice) It's a long standing UK music store that also deal with bluray and games etc.

You've never heard of the chain-music store HMV? They sell blu ray, dvds, cds, records, books, game etc etc. They are all over the world

Anywho, these are the exciting scenes I am talking about... http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2007/03/victory-in-europe-photographic.html

Dang, thanks guys. No, this is indeed a first. Looks like I have nothing like that where I live. But I see they have them in Canada, and I am flying up there next May. I will have to see if they have some in Ottawa.

The thing is that midnight launches come with some expectations. The store owner keeps the store open and pays staff for that extra time. The expectation may be set from the manufacturer or just from the market knowledge of the retailer. Either way they are looking for some payback from the effort. Someone dropped the ball with that and it's all I was pointing out. When TD replied "midnight launhces are a joke" it seemed like he was saying they were not relevant. The "dead" comment was mine from his original comment. We'll see what happens when Kinect gets its midnight launch. It might be similar, it might not.

do we know they'll have midnight launches though ?

honestly I've seen less hype about Kinect than I did about Move. it's mostly been fan discussions mingled with some minor MS PR. while Sony was way out there with their hype campaign abotu how awesome it was and how much better it was. So I'm not sure I see a midnight launch happening.

I also don't see it as a midnight launch product. YEs i think they'll sell lots, but not midnight launch lots. it's more of a lots over the holiday sales season lots

I would think they will have a launch but like the Move will probably be sporadic in it's success. As I mentioned earlier, these are just new control methods, not the latest and greatest game in a long running franchise or a new hardware revision. They will sell well, but won't be breaking launch day records. Holiday periods are where it's at :)

They used to have an HMV in NYC in the 90s but was one of the companies to collapse in the US with Tower and Sam Goody when packaged music went downhill

And because of this, we are lead to believe GT5 and LBP2 will both record massive numbers. Perfect timing with the early/mid November release dates on these first line titles. Move will be probably be Sony's "third in line" this winter.

Wasn't MS treating Kinect as a new console launch?

  • 1 month later...

Midnight launches (regardless of console) are such a joke anymore. There's not need to stand in line like a lifeless fool when services such as Amazon offer release date delivery.

There's a certain spirit and fun about attending a midnight launch. Its not for everyone, but I've attended a few midnight launches for videogames, which I could just as easily walk in the store the day of and buy, but its always a good time chatting with people who share a common hobby.

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with adblockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Opera Air'. It still has some bloat, but nowhere near as much as Brave browser, for example. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. I have a system wide Adblocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the the web browser, but over the whole thing. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt adblocker because of that.
