VS .NET 2003 Academic

Question

Are there any differences between the Academic version of VS .NET and the regular version, besides the price? What languages does it come with? Does anyone know where I can order the Academic version. I tried Microsoft but all they had was a description for it. I could not find it in their store, only the standard.

We had a little discussion on it in the "What language do you use?" thread.

I think the Academic edition has the capabilities of the Professional edition.( Same box color ) So, you won't be getting the features in Enterprise Developer/Architect. Those editions can include SQL Server, Visio, Commerce Server, Biztalk, Windows Advanced Server 2000, and Windows Enterprise Server 2003 plus some other tools. Technically speaking, there isn't any difference language-wise or feature-wise. The framework opens up the platform to any edition. The editions differentiate with the tools available to the developer, that's all.

Of course, the Academic edition comes with the licensing restriction of no commercial development.

Here's a list of places you can buy it:

Academic is Professional + Student/Teacher Tools.

ALL the versions are exactly the same except the extra tools you get. the enterprise architect version has all the tools i think, and a few are removed with each smaller version.

from my knowledge, academic is the same as professional at less price. maybe not though; i don't have both.
