Hacking attempts on port 25

there are no currently active promotions through resellers (or at least my level, I can't look at anyone elses). prices on barracuda website are solid.

I am sure that they will start a promotion soon. Last promo ended last month.

Have a look at the Bloxx Mail Filter - www.bloxx.com

Cheaper than Baracuda with AD integration as standard, awesome reporting and a great web based UI.

Cheers!

I think you don't know Energize updates that are available only on Barracuda, do you? Every 30 minutes Barracuda Central provides SPAM, Virus and Security updates. It's not just to block SPAMs, but it protects against 0-day virus and stuff too.

Sorry, but Barracuda really rocks!

Not to mention outlook and lotus notes direct integration to mark messages spam/not spam.

I requested pricing, let's see what they come back with. I'll give them 24 hrs to come back with something, so far after 4 hrs not even a contact from their mail system to let me know they received my message.

As does the Bloxx appliance with the option to include Sophos AV as an add on :)

I remember seeing lots of attempts when i was running an FTP at home. it was fun watching the bots try to log in with username "admin" and password "password".

One time i actually changed the username and password to that to see what would happen... last time i ever try that! lol.

What happened? :p

First of all someone started using it to store warez files such as games etc, then a few inactive virus files ready to be deployed i suppose by some kind of bot net (not sure). Then some more horribly grim sex material...

It went on for 3 days because i was away and then i noticed it when i got back (i left the FTP on for people to upload their photos from my wedding), but i actually forgot to change the default admin cridentials.

Needless to say, i switched off the FTP and formatted the disks in the machine for a week, doing as many passes as possible.

To some degree i wondered if i should contact the police and let them know what happened, but my fear of their lack of understanding technology stopped me, as i worried they would arrest me instead of actually understanding what it was i was telling them.

Really want to stop taking this so off-topic, but just had this come in to my mailbox from Barracuda:

http://www.barracudalabs.com/wordpress/index.php/2010/09/09/here-you-have-spam-teaches-an-old-worm-a-new-trick/

Impressive stuff.

This is an unfortunate inevitability when hosting services of any kind, but especially SMTP and FTP. What may be a good idea to consider: We have off site SPAM filtering provided by Trend Micro which then sends all legitimate mail to our servers. With this method, we can restrict our SMTP server to only allow connections from Trend's subnets. Coupled with authenticated entry, this virtually eliminates the issue.

"to only allow connections from Trend's subnets"

This is kind of in line with what I was asking, but have not gotten clarification on.. OP stated that server is used to SEND stuff -- if this is all it does, you do not need inbound access to it on 25, and could just block that at your firewall or border router. Putting in a spam filtering appliance seems pointless if all the smtp server is used for is sending out.

36+hrs no reply, I guess they don't want my business. great company right there, makes me want to go out and recommend their products.

budman sorry, i wote i was good meaning... satisfied and went to deal with other issues.

to answer you:

there are 2 other people that send and receive email and that is it.

i started the exchange up to deal with the reminders and allowed these two people access. the reminders i envisioned would be one way but the customers off the bat started replying to those email reminders and asking for appointments. the reminders say this comes from an unattended email...but you know and i should have.. no one would pay that any mind. anyway it is 2 way. the owner wants the business of course that the intend of the reminder. i am not perfect. i solve problems and think like that. the user is my focus and the customers behavior should have been expected.

so inbound is required. i wondered if i could stop the ability to login in that manner and still get email and my research showed no way. ??????

on that same box i have to deal with the credit card pci requirements and they just do not like some of the sbs2003 technology. i have closed a bunch of inbound ports sbs uses.

thanks

They do have a pricing page SC302. I was just reviewing it myself for our Email Servers. It looks like 1999 for the appliance. 1,199 for 3 year updates, 1,199 dollars for extended warranty.

Good luck

bloxx does not have a price page. That looks like the barracuda pricing. I am a reseller for barracuda and am quite aware of their pricing for the different models as well as their vmware options. I was looking at gaining pricing information for the bloxx product of which I am coming upon 48 hrs of not receiving any information regarding pricing or even acknowledgement of my inquiry of pricing.

Right now barracuda is having a upgrade promotion through partners.

    • I see the Winblows 11 BETA testing continues. This is just Windows 10 all over again. Oh well, everything is still smooth sailing over here on Windows 10 21H2 LTSC. You unpaid sheep BETA testers be sure to let us know when you get done BETA testing Winblows 11 for the rest of us. 🤣
    • What do you expect? Windows 11 is still in BETA. This is Windows 10 all over again. M$ doesn't hire people to do BETA testing anymore. They just let all the dumb sheep with FOMO do all the BETA testing for them. It's the same dumb sheep who use self-checkout at the store and do someone else's job for FREE! All while the worker who's getting paid just stands there and watches them. 🤣 🤡
    • Pet peeve: Microsoft using scaling options to get around the fact they removed font size settings, as if that's somehow acceptable to do. Thankfully third party apps still can adjust font sizes just fine, even though it often randomly resets on OS updates. And the funny thing is that not only are the scaling options horrible crutches, but they only work in some applications. And, ironically enough, even some apps from Microsoft themselves have hardcoded tiny fonts in certain dialogs in them. Example - certain parts of MS Office apps UI.
    • Unofficial script does the most useful official Windows 11/10 repairs you want automatically by Sayan Sen IT admins and system admins, and even home users have to run various Windows diagnostic runs from time to time in order to iron out or work around system problems. Last year, Microsoft published a guidance piece about various such native Windows apps, tools and utilities they include the like of Task Manager, Registry Editor, and more. Aside from them, Windows also comes with SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) to scan and fix corrupt and missing system files. Besides those, various other ways to help and diagnose network issues related to DNS (Domain Name System), among others, also exists. In order to save time running these, a Reddit user has created a new tool that automates all of these into a single package. The author writes that the Batch script (.BAT file) they have developed is "basically a one-stop script that can help clean up your system, run built-in diagnostics, fix common network issues, and generate system reports." The script is based on native Windows tools like netsh, ipconfig, systeminfo, among others, and the idea behind this is essentially to save time. The tool can be of help with Windows Update repairs, among others, something we all know is pretty common, and even Microsoft's own support articles may not prove to be helpful. Here is everything the utility can do for you: Run SFC, DISM, CHKDSK from a single menu Restart network adapters with auto-detection Flush or set DNS (Google, Cloudflare, or custom) Windows Update repair (resets services + cache) Generate system reports (saved as .txt files on Desktop) Show installed drivers Clean up temp files Registry backup and restore (manual) The latest version of the utility is now available for download on GitHub. The new version fixes issues related to admin privileges. As the script requires it to be run as an admin, it now restart itself to work in admin mode even if a user forgot to run it as an administrator. To download it, head over to its GitHub page here. The utility is named Windows Maintenance Tool. As always, though, make sure to back up your PC as this is an unofficial third-party app, and it's better if you test it first in a VM. • Come the hell on, do we need clickbait titles? "Overwatch 2" - 11 characters "a popular multiplayer hero shooter" - 34 characters What's the purpose here - delivering news or titles for clicks? I think we all know the answer. You're straying into "Number 7 on this list will SHOCK you" territory and while it may work on some crappy sites, this is why they are crappy sites. Just tell the story! Go back and look at popular articles that made Neowin what it was. Did they have headlines of "New OS from major technology conglomerate has astonishing new feature" or is it likely to tell the story succinctly and then elaborate within the content?
