Dead Rising 2

I would be playing a review copy if it didn't end up going to someone else instead. :( Otherwise, those like myself in the U.S. have to wait until the 28th to get a copy, when it is released here.

You and others were able to pick it up yesterday, its release date over there.

Got my fingers burnt with the first game, I never understood what the hell was going on. Suddenly I was fighting a boss I apparently wasn't high enough level to do or whatever  Everything just felt Japanese-crazy and never looked back ... Did they change that here :p ?

I haven't tried it yet, and probably won't until it drops in price. but I'll probably pick it up bargain price.

however, if you didn't like the first one, you're going to hate this one to. it's got more in common with old never ending games than modern story driven ones, except it's open ended so you can end up in areas you shouldn't be yet. And there's no real ending, there's a timer and you won't ever be able to do all the missions, some mission will exclude others and you wouldn't have time anyway.

it's basically an old school score based game like pacman, only modernized.

I'll probably pick this up when it hits shelves here in Canada. The first game had its fair share of quirks, but the core gameplay is fun enough (for me, at least) to overlook the frustrating timers, the crappy inventory system, the annoying boss battles and the run-of-the-mill storylines.

Judging from my experience with Case Zero, it looks as though Dead Rising 2 keeps all of those issues intact, so like HawkMan said, if you hated the first game you'll almost certainly hate this as well (unless the retail game is drastically different from Case Zero, which I'm betting isn't the case). They made small improvements here and there (the biggest being the fact that rescuing survivors is much easier now), but it's still Dead Rising.

Although to correct something that HawkMan said, Dead Rising 1 did have a "real ending". Whether or not it was a good ending is a different matter entirely ;).

yeah, but it wasn't an ending you really played to, it was an ending that simply came when the timer hit zero whether you wanted to or not. incidentally, I never finished the first game, but I do believe you needed to be at the base or something when the timer hit 0. ah well. I'll try to finish the second one. more cooperative non zombies with zombie brains :p and more saves, though I don't know how 3 over 1 saves is gonna make a difference, you're still going to miss one of the two missions when they overlap. but yeah sometimes you wish you did have a save a bit further back.

Dead Rising 1 Spoilers:

There was an extra section after the timer runs out. If you complete all of the cases and be on the helipad by noon, you play an extra part after that (where Frank and Isabella have to escape from the mall), and that section actually has an ending when you beat the final boss. Well, it's not much of an ending. It's just some words on the screen before the credits roll. If you do a Google search for Dead Rising Overtime Mode, you'll find much more information than I can recall off the top of my head.

The part you said about missions overlapping is true though. In DR1 you usually had to let some survivors die in order to finish all of the cases in time. I'm not sure if that's different in Dead Rising 2 or not. I can't imagine it is, since a lot of them are time-sensitive.

Picked this one up today, but not had a chance to play it. I'm hoping it's a little less forgiving then the first one.

It's somewhat improved on the savefront, but still keeps the original formula. But instead of only one slot you now have 3 slots, and slightly more places to save at. So should be possible to go back from an bad save now.

The only thing I know about the release version is that DM said it was abundant with load screens, lol.

I still haven't got round to picking up the first, always heard about its problems and its put me off ever picking it up over anything else.

Abundant load screens confirmed. That is the worst part of the game so far.

I did the Dead Rising Case Zero last night before popping in Dead Rising 2. It was a nice lead into the retail game (I recommend Case Zero, it adds to the experience). So far so good. The beginning of the game is kinda, hmmm, odd:

Not sure I really saw any satisfaction in mowing down the zombies with my motorcycle for 60 seconds, most likely propelling me to 1 first place no matter how many I took out

But it doesn't take long to get into a mall...AGAIN :)

I just picked this up the other day, great game. Add me on ps3 if you haven't and we can co op. Already lvl 22. I don't mind the grinding, as it is just mindless fun. Most likely won't touch the story until I max lvl. Having fun just messing around till I die and looking for all the secrets.

Just started this and the load screens are friggin terrible, specially when the videos are so pointless and skippable anyway!

Never played the first one but I know I loved the demo for a long while some time ago, but after starting DR2 it seems kinda repetitive. Does it get any better?!

Ultimately I'm just put off by the time restrictions again, I thought they'd dump that **** after the first one.

If you bought the PC version, just use one of the many trainers out there. Each of them has a time freeze (and control) option.

Scrolled through all the side missions in one gameplay. Was a lot of fun.

Time restrictions are there if you really want to do the story. If not, just ignore them. If you die, choose restart and you keep everything. The whole point of the game is to really explore, ignore the story, and level up as much as possible. Once you feel you have a really good lay of the land, then go for the story, and see if you can make a S , A , B ,C , or D rating. It's just what capcom does. As you get farther in the game, the zombies get tougher. But Co-op is just a blast, especially when you have so many different weapons you can make, and there are a ton of secret weapons you need to find off of billboards and whatnot.

Put me in the "do not get it" camp. I played the first one a couple years ago and I didn't get that one either. TBH I only played the first hour of DR2. I think all of the cut scenes and loading times put me off too. But I guess to each his own.

What's the deal with the loading times?
