Looks good! Is there a subscription or is it like Guild Wars?

Final Fantasy operates the same as World of Warcraft it comes with a free 30 day subscription but then a monthly, quarterly or half year subscription is then required to play the game

This game is looking great and I'd love to play it, unfortunately the PS3 version will take a little longer to get released.

"The PS3 version of Final Fantasy 14 meanwhile will be released in March of next year, and both games are already up for pre-order online: Play.com lists upfront pricing of £34.99/39.99 for PC/PS3, although as we’ve come to expect with MMO (massively multiplayer online) titles, there will be a monthly charge: £8.99, with extra characters costing £2.10 each."

March next year. :(

I dont get the sub fee. Is it 9.99 for a month for unlimited characters? or can you pay like 3 dollars for a character? Or is it 10 dollars to access and to create a person its 3 dollars? wut? :s

I have also heard that the UI is bad and the cutscenes have no audio & story non-existent?

Pricing is based on 30-day periods, regardless of the length of your subscription period.

Example 1:

If you add 1 new Character Option (at Euro ?3.00 per 30 days) on the 20th day of a 30-day subscription period, then you will immediately be charged 11 days of Character Option charges at Euro ?1.10 to cover days 20 ? 30 inclusive.

Example 2:

If you add 1 new Character Option (at 300 Crysta per 30 days) on the 15th day of a 90-day subscription period, then you will immediately be charged for 76 days of usage at Crysta 760 to cover days 15 ? 90 inclusive.

all the significant cut scenes have audio and yes its does have a story to it, well theres actually 3 but lead to the same place at the end though, the rest is just text you read of

i see they are retaining the same terrible billing system from ff11.

i think at least in ff11 it was only a dollar per extra character slot.

speaking of the billing system, can anyone explain it?

the crysta system? how many you can buy in each alottment(ie 1000 or 500 iirc) and what the cost of each month in crysta is?

the alternative to it? which if iirc was going through something like paypal in the uk which charges VAT and exhange rates on currency or w/e?

i don't know the details on this but maybe somebody does?

The crysta system is a point-based system, much like XBL's point system and is used for services on Square-Enix. However, you can still use the monthly credit-card payment system. You can view more information at http://www.square-enix.com/na/account/crysta/

For those wondering about the 9.99 fee. The 9.99 fee is just for Registering FFXIV. It does NOT include registration of a character. EACH character you will register will be an extra 3.00 billed on top of the 9.99 fee.

Also, for those people who play Final Fantasy XI as well, the game is NOT billed the same way as Final Fantasy XI as XI is not billed through crysta or account.square-enix.com. However, if you do play FFXI on top of FFXIV, the fee for FFXI will be lowered to $7.00/mo

i heard even the japanese hate this game. the source of the claim linked a japanese thread without a translation and hasn't responded to requests for some blurbs to be translated, so it's unverifiable.

it seems the claims that everything wrong with the game in beta would be fixed for launch were false, which is no surprise in this genre. many people are speculating that the game is in a live beta state until ps3 launch, but even then who can say if the major issues it has will be fixed by that time.

many ff11 players are saying that square failed to learn any lessons at all in any area from ff11, and that all of ff11's issues are in ff14 and actually much worse now. including bu t not limited to things in ff11 like the game running worse on newer hardware than older hardware, the billing system, the job system, grinding options, map design, crafting, UI and so on.

the people that actually like parts of the game are frustrated by the severe limitations and silly systems in place. things like needing to write down craft recipes with a pen and paper for example. although they say they see more crafters than anything else. they say exploration is fun, as caves have different kinds of mobs to kill, but if you aren't a big explorer than getting around is going to be tedious and a huge time sink.

pretty much all teh bugs and so on that were in beta are still in the game. which is not a huge surprise for a new mmo at launch tbqh. i hear even witha cotnroller, which makes the game so much less frustrating, the ui is still pretty awful and annoying to use, with things such as numerous and annoying confirmation prompts at every turn.

Guess what? 4.0 score from Gamespot. Gamespot has been questioned in the past about paid for reviews and diminishing the value of scoring when everything is generally a 7+. To get a 4.0 from Gamespot is just pathetic.

Not only that, but the metacritic score is abysmal as well. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/final-fantasy-xiv-online

The Yogscast have been ripping this apart during the beta. It's so broken it's unbelievable. The first of the 15 parts:

Or if you want to see how far they got before giving up:

You honestly have to question what Square Enix was thinking when they made this game. Was it due to stubborness/pride and thought it would be amazing? Was it due to them not playing any other MMOs? Did they make a bad design decision but due to deadlines they had no choice but to continue on with it? They have made FFXI into a decent MMO (though i don't like it), i read posts everwhere that if they had just taken FFXI, added the new class system and pumped up the graphics it would be a hit - but instead they took a dump in a game box and put it on shelves. I hate to sound like a WoW fanboy, but if they had sat down with WoW for 10 minutes they would have seen what polish is, and gotten a few ideas how to make a streamlined UI.

Damn Gametrailers ripped it apart as well

Wow, that looks really bad. It hurts to hear some of the trademark Final Fantasy songs being used for this train wreck of a game.

The part where they showed his character walking from one zone to another (in accelerated time) was brutal. The fact that you have to hear your footsteps throughout the entire journey just makes a bad situation worse. The voice acting seemed terrible as well. And when I say terrible, I mean terrible like Dynasty Warriors.

Say what you will about Final Fantasy XII Final Fantasy XIII, but I believe we can safely call XIV the worst numbered FF game ever made.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant XIII. Don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that.

Looking at Metacritic and the reviews so far i think it's fair to say the worst MMO ever made in general, the fact that it was a Final Fantasy game that now holds that honor is ironic.

I saw a funny thing on one of the forums, kinda ironic

"If you asked me 10 years ago who would have made the MMO that would expand the genre, and bring untold success and offered two choices

SquareSoft (Now SquareExix) a RPG developer

or

Blizzard (A RTS maker)

i for sure would not have said Blizzard. You people can rag on WoW all you want, but the game is good."

I couldn't get the beta to update, and when it did. Guess what another update! The whole update system is a mess.

i totally agreed. I was in the beta and the whole update system was a piece of crap and i just gave up and didnt play at all.

    • Good, because the nonstop chattering from the voices in her head made me quit the second game.
    • This new cabinet design lets you run AMD, Intel, and Nvidia PCs inside one case by Sayan Sen At Computex 2026 earlier this month, AMD announced a couple of new X3D processors for both sockets AM4 and AM5 as it confirmed the support extension of the latter till 2029. And although Intel didn't unveil any new desktop chips, the company's Core Ultra 200S Plus series is relatively new too. Let's say though that you want the best of both worlds simultaneously, and instead of running two different systems, you can have both running together side-by-side, or rather on top of one another. That's exactly what Thermaltake's CAPO X dual system is made for doing. While it's not exactly mandatory to run AMD with Intel, or vice versa, you get the idea. As you can see in the render above, it is essentially like a double-decker PC case that is capable of holding two microATX (mATX) motherboards. Even running just one discrete graphics card in a PC can get toasty, so you may be wondering how well the cooling is designed on the CAPO X, Thermaltake has confirmed, as is evident from the marketing promo image above, that the case supports up to two 360 mm AIO liquid coolers. 420mm is not supported. In total there is room for 13 120mm case fans. In terms of I/O (input/output) options for the two systems, there are naturally two places for those ports, one at the top and one at the very bottom of the chassis in the front panel. In terms of use cases, there are many possibilities. Thermaltake itself, for example, highlights how one system can be your main PC while the other could be the AI agent PC. Another example given is how it can be used to stream and game simultaneously with dedicated systems instead of hogging one with the entire load. Nothing regarding pricing or availability was said. • There might be some passive design improvements (cooling, etc), but I doubt they'd change the core performance spec of the hardware mid-generation when they've already got a new console in development.
    • State of Decay 3 is out in 2027, reveals Plague Nests with new co-op gameplay trailer by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe A few months ago, Undead Labs broke its silence about the third entry in the State of Decay series since its announcement in 2020. Today, the studio had a brand-new trailer to reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase, finally giving players a look at the Unreal Engine 5-powered title. A broad 2027 release window is now attached to State of Decay 3 too. The studio confirmed that every scene seen in the gameplay trailer (except for the studio logo) released today is from the game with no cinematic footage. "The quality bar of the moment-to-moment experience is higher than anything we’ve achieved in Undead Labs’ history," says the studio. "State of Decay 3 is being built in Unreal Engine 5, and we’re creating better quality versions of what makes our game the survival sandbox it is, and the combat experience is really, really important to us, and I think you can see it coming through in this trailer." One new aspect of this upcoming entry is the Plague Nests. These are supposed to be dynamic, dungeon‑like enemy hubs with varied “personas” that change tactics each time one appears on a map. These areas will have the best loot in the game for players brave enough to tackle them. The combat system is being overhauled too, letting players do quick and power attacks depending on the situation. This isn't just on the player's side though, as zombies themselves now have multiple new types of behaviors depending on how fresh or decayed they are. "All of these play very differently, especially as you start getting outnumbered or when you’re making noise and running around and trying to save your rear end or the rear end of your friend next to you," adds the developer. Of course, settlement building and community management are massive parts of this third entry too. These are being further expanded with the cooperative focus, giving players much more freedom for playing together than in State of Decay 2. Players will even be able to split up and build settlements in different areas of the same map with different goals. Undead Labs confirmed that playtests are already ongoing for the title, and interested players can sign up to participate by heading over here once more slots open up ahead of the full release. State of Decay 3 is coming out on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Game Pass sometime in 2027.
