Alexander Gustafsson has been patiently waiting for his rematch with Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title, and it looks like he?ll get it, according to ESPN.com?s Brett Okamoto. ESPN reports that UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed Saturday night that the UFC plans to stage the rematch between Jones and Gustafsson on Aug. 30 in Las Vegas at a pay per view event scheduled for the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

I was looking at the predictions on UFCs website last night, unanimous choices all for Cormier. Would be nice to see it happen, but it'd also be nice to see Cormier do well against better opposition than his last fight :|

That was a complete massacre. UFC 173 ended up providing a couple of awesome fights.

Shocked that Barao lost to Dillashaw. He was completely dominated for 5 rounds and convincingly TKO'd in the 5th. Where does this leave Urijah Faber though, because I can't see him fighting his team mate. Can't wait to the rematch with Dominic Cruz once he gets back in to the Octogon.

Dillashaw said he doesn't want to fight Faber but he probably won't have much choice in it. I'm certain the UFC will sweeten the pot enough. Faber is a perennial top contender and has made a home at 135. It would be cruel (and costly) to keep him around knocking out contenders and never allowing him to fight for the belt. Not a lot of other contenders at 135: Assun??o, Mizugaki, and Iuri Alcantara. Michael McDonald has losses to Faber and Bar?o, but who hasn't? He could jump into the title picture with 2 solid wins. Dominick Cruz will probably fight a guy like Mizugaki before the title shot. Heck, maybe they'll go crazy and have Cruz fight Bar?o, who, despite losing, is still pretty much the top dog in the division. Lots of possibilities for the future of the BW division, which is now headlined by a champion that can finish AND speak English.

Good event, was quite scary how easily Hendo got ragged around, fair play to him though i was expecting a 'hanging up the gloves' speech after, i think Rogan was too..

Cormier tossed a 250lbs Josh Barnett around in their fight. A 199lbs Dan Henderson wasn't much trouble. Henderson should retire, without the boost that TRT provided he faded pretty fast and the finish was just sad. Cormier was constantly looking at the ref to stop it and begrudgingly sunk in the choke to put a stop to that beating.

Tate > Rousey anyday! :P

Pretty much agree with the statements about Hendo. Seems like he is done. Shogun will probably be pretty ###### that he didn't face a post-TRT Hendo, but from Shogun's last few fights, it seems his career appears to be on the decline too. I think Cormier needs one more fight at LHW before giving him to Jones. Personally, I'd like to see him fight Alexander Gustafsson with the winner getting Jones, but that rematch has been scheduled for UFC177 already with Cormier scheduled to fight the winner.

Silva removed from UFC 175 after failing to apply for license and submit himself for random drug test

Chael Sonnen is a prophet!

Also UFC on Fox 12: Lawler vs. Brown. I'll repeat that: "RUTHLESS" ROBBIE LAWLER VS MATT "THE IMMORTAL" BROWN. That thing has FOTY written all over it.

Cormier is probably going to rue the day he chose to wait for the title shot. Still, it fits in with his schedule since he wants to get his LCL and ACL repaired, putting him out until the end of 2014, right on time for the Jones vs Bjornes winner match up.

Gonna be interesting to see how a post-TRT Belfort fairs up against Sonnen.

Don't forget that Sonnen is also off TRT. Still, he has the wrestling to win a very ugly decision unless Belfort hits him with something quickly.

ONE FC

Askren also won, but who cares? He was fighting a clearly over-matched opponent and finished him easily.

I wonder what UFC would be like if they allowed soccer kicks in the unified MMA rules.

It would probably be banned. ONE FC gets away with it because ASIA, but it's still a way too dangerous technique. Now upkicks to a guy that's trying to get into your guard, that's another story.

Good night of fighting, tuned into both events (Y)

Oh, boxing on too was there?

Miocic vs Maldonado was a complete joke of a "fight".

Imagine though, one Pride rules event in Asia every year.. Baroni would be in his element

Yeh that was pretty pretty shocking how quickly he dropped him

...aaaand he's retired.

Following a whirlwind two days that began with a removal from July?s UFC 175 card due to a failed pre-fight drug test, three-time world title challenger Chael Sonnen has retired from the sport of mixed martial arts.

?I had a great time,? said Sonnen, who made the announcement on FOX Sports 1?s UFC Tonight show.

On Tuesday, it was revealed the Sonnen had failed a random pre-fight drug test administered in May for anastrozole and clomiphene - a pair of drugs that are used to block and/or reduce estrogen in the body. Both are on the Nevada State Athletic Commission and WADA?s banned substances list. Sonnen stated that he was using the drugs to help transition from the TRT that is no longer legal for fighters in Nevada.

?I want to stay within the rules, and I don?t fully understand them, and I have to put my health first,? said Sonnen. ?I have to put my family first. If I know what I know now, and I know that this is going to work and I?m going to be able to get my wife pregnant and look forward to having a family, I?m going to do the exact same thing 20 more times, which is going to put me out of compliance 20 more times. Let me just remove myself.?

With Sonnen out of UFC 175 and a suitable replacement opponent not able to be found, Sonnen?s opponent, Vitor Belfort, has been removed from the card as well.

As for the self-proclaimed ?American Gangster,? one of the most popular, yet polarizing, figures in the sport will walk off into the sunset, having challenged three times for UFC titles against Anderson Silva (twice) and Jon Jones. And while he fell short in those bouts, Sonnen?s impact was certainly felt over the course of his 17-year pro career, one which left him with plenty of people to thank Wednesday evening, including his coaches, friends, his employers past and present, and an old rival from Brazil

?I want to thank the single most important opponent that I ever had. I couldn?t have got to where I am without this dance partner, and it?s of course you, Anderson Silva,? said Sonnen, who engaged in classic bouts with the longtime middleweight champion in 2010 and 2012. ?Thank you for the opportunity, thank you for the memories, thank you for the invitation to the barbecue, even though I didn?t take you up on it. I want to take an opportunity to officially announce my retirement from competitive mixed martial arts.?

Sonnen retires with a 29-14-1 record.

A lot of folks were complaining about Arlovski's split decision win over Brendon Schaub. Sure, it wasn't the greatest fight, but Arlovski held him to the cage for the first 2 rounds and Schaub didn't really do anything to counter it. I gave the first 2 rounds to Arlovski and the 3rd to Schaub.

    • This could exactly be how our Sun but it's not as simple by Sayan Sen Image by Drew Rae via Pexels An international team led by Université de Montréal (University of Montreal) PhD student Érika Le Bourdais has found that the ancient white dwarf star LSPM J0207+3331 is still pulling in planetary debris, even though it has been cooling for about three billion years. White dwarfs are dense, Earth-sized stellar remnants left behind when Sun-like stars exhaust their nuclear fuel and shed their outer layers. The star, located 145 light-years away in the constellation Triangulum, is the oldest and coldest white dwarf known to have a surrounding disk of dust. The star was first spotted in 2019 by a citizen scientist through the Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 project. Its cool temperature immediately suggested that it was very old, since white dwarfs gradually lose heat over time. Using the W. M. Keck telescopes in Hawaii, astronomers later confirmed that the star shows infrared signals consistent with dust rings formed by asteroids breaking apart under its strong gravity. Such infrared excesses occur when a star emits more infrared light than expected, often because warm dust surrounding it absorbs and re-radiates energy. “This discovery challenges our understanding of planetary system evolution,” said Le Bourdais. “The fact that we still see planetary debris being accreted three billion years after the star became a white dwarf suggests that asteroids, comets, and even planets can remain in orbit around these stars for a very long time.” Spectroscopic analysis—a technique that studies light to identify the chemical elements present in an object—revealed thirteen heavy elements in the star’s atmosphere: sodium, magnesium, aluminium, silicon, calcium, titanium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, and strontium. Normally, heavy elements sink quickly in hydrogen-rich white dwarfs, making them hard to detect. “We expected to see only a few elements, but we found dozens!” explained Le Bourdais. The research paper adds more detail. The absence of carbon features suggests the debris came from a carbon-volatile-depleted source. The abundance pattern shows slight deficits of magnesium and silicon compared to iron but otherwise resembles Earth-like material. This points to a differentiated rocky body—one whose materials have separated into distinct layers such as a metallic core and rocky mantle—with a metallic core fraction higher than Earth’s. In other words, the star is accreting the remains of a large rocky object, similar in structure to Earth or the asteroid Vesta. “White dwarfs offer one of the only ways we can directly measure the composition of exoplanets,” said Patrick Dufour, co-author and professor at Université de Montréal. “When planetary debris come too close, they are torn apart by the star’s gravity and end up polluting its atmosphere, leaving a detailed chemical fingerprint of its composition.” The team also detected weak Ca II H & K line core emission, making this only the second known isolated polluted white dwarf to show this feature. These are specific spectral signatures produced by ionised calcium and can indicate unusual physical activity in a star’s upper atmosphere. The finding suggests that extra physical processes may be happening in or above the star’s upper atmosphere. The study stresses the importance of including heavy elements in model atmosphere calculations, since leaving them out can distort the inferred structure and lead to inaccurate stellar parameters. Earlier work suggested the star’s infrared excess came from two dust rings. The new analysis shows that a single silicate dust disk—a ring composed largely of rock-forming minerals rich in silicon and oxygen—can explain the observed signal at 11.6 μm, simplifying the picture of the system’s structure. The question of how debris ended up falling into the star so late remains open. One idea is that giant planets in the system slowly destabilised smaller bodies over billions of years. Another possibility is that a passing star disturbed the orbits of debris. “Future observations with the James Webb Space Telescope or archival data found in the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission could help distinguish between a planetary rearrangement and the gravitational effect of a close stellar encounter,” said John Debes, co-author and researcher at the Space Telescope Science Institute. Dufour noted that hydrogen-rich white dwarfs are the most common type, and the coolest among them are the oldest stars in the galaxy. “We didn't have the habit of looking for signs of accretion in them. This unique case motivates us to expand our search to more of these stars.” The findings show that even after billions of years, planetary systems can remain active and complex. Substantial accretion events—the gradual accumulation of surrounding material onto a celestial object—can still occur long after a star’s death, offering a rare window into the composition and fate of distant worlds. • +1 for Rufus. I bought NTLite a few years ago to scrape all the bloat out of Windows 11. It is not a perfect solution as there is a steep learning curve if you don't really know what you are doing (me included). I have finally got a Windows install that just works. I only keep things I use and nothing else.
