Angry Birds available for Android (Free*)

Recommended Posts

I got the email this morning, here it is... One thing to note, it is free, but it has ads. They say a future patch will allow you to pay for the ads to be removed...

IT'S HERE. AND IT'S FREE. After an extended period of beta testing, Rovio is proud to present Angry Birds for the Android platform. First of all, we'd like to thank you for your patience.

Why is Angry Birds free on Android? We want to make Angry Birds available for as many people as possible. Previously, many people were experiencing problems in finding Angry Birds on Android Market, but now everybody can download the game on their device.

Angry Birds will run on second generation Android devices and upwards, with Android platform 1.6 or later. Your device needs to support OpenGL ES 2.0. QVGA display resolution is not supported currently, but we will add support for QVGA devices soon.

Angry Birds Android features mobile advertising. A future update will include the option to purchase and opt out of advertisements.

To get the game now, you can download Angry Birds on your device for free exclusively from GetJar (http://www.getjar.com/angry-birds). It will soon be available on the Android Market and Motorola SHOP4APPS, free of charge as well.

We have worked long and hard to ensure that Angry Birds gives the best possible experience on Android, and we believe we have reached our goal. We welcome our fans to see for themselves and have fun playing Angry Birds!

So either this getjar site is getting slammed, or it is just not a good site, as the download is not working for me and I am at home connected through my WiFi, but will keep trying.

Again, it is free but with Ads. Someone post once they get it succesfully.

Rovio also stated that later it will be available through the market place for free as well so you might want to wait for that release not to mention if you get it in that manner you are able to receive updates easier if there are any rather than if you get it from the apk file.

Free? Amazing....the only reason I was not very fond of this game is due to its cost on iOS, I figured it would have a cost on Android as well, so I tried to keep my excitement down a bit for it. Now that its free I can't wait to be able to get it (not in the market yet and the other site seems to be getting slammed)!

Dropbox for those interested

Was just about to post this, thanks for sharing. (Y)

I got it from a drop box link on Gizmodo, people are really being friendly and spreading it around, which is awesome. (Y)

No problem. I already installed and gave it a go. Working perfectly. :)

Why isnt it on the android market? google servers can cope with the load.

Anyway got it on my HTC HD2 running froyo, works great!

It will be soon, possibly it takes a bit of time for an app to appear in the market or something? Hard to tell why but they do plan on moving it to the market, they simply wanted those die-hard users to get their hands on it quicker.

I prefer paying 59p for no ads. :p

Which will be an option for us Android users as well. Essentially we get the game you were forced to pay for (to play, that is) except free with ads, or we pay for the game and get the same game as you (you referring to iPhone users in general, not you in particular).

I did not see any Ads on the version I downloaded, at least not yet, only played through Level 3 real quick to make sure it was working, but not a single ad yet, so it looks like the ads are not that intrusive at all, which is really nice.

No me either

And apologies if I turned the thread in to an argument, I only did it as a silly joke :D

Guess I gotta wait till it hits the market....I downloaded it from that getjar site, and it says "Failed to parse package." or something along those lines when I try to launch the apk to install it, and the file is only 1KB when it says it should be 12MB.

I can wait though, it is a fun game and I am excited about getting it for free, but I can wait a few hours till it hits the market (assuming it will hit the market today).

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with adblockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Opera Air'. It still has some bloat, but nowhere near as much as Brave browser, for example. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. I have a system wide Adblocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the the web browser, but over the whole thing. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt adblocker because of that.
