Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L

Lots of docs on it, but seems a lot of people have just given up and gone USB audio, which is fine :)

You might be lucky on this one too, I had Gigabyte G31m-S2L around a year back, now i have an Asus P5QPL-AM.

I still have the old files that got audio working on my old motherboard, since your motherboard & mine are pretty similar in architecture what worked for me might work for you too.

Try the file im attaching below , just drag the .txt file over the AppleHDApatcher . Tell me if it works .

Apple High Def Audio Patcher.zipFetching info...

Time for weird!!!

I went back to using the on-board sound in Windows, which obviously worked just fine.

Rebooted into OSX to go run multibeast, and then before I ran it, I emptied my trash...

And heard the noise!!! For some reason it has started working in OSX. So I've taken a CCC backup (but am gonna do this to another drive - it's currently on a spare drive), and activated Time Machine on a generic external drive :)

Thanks all.

BDC - will be in touch :)

Were you on 10.6.4 back then?

Nope buddy, i was using 10.5 at that time. And back then this was the easiest way to get audio on the ALC662 Audio Device ( which is same for my old motherboard & your current motherboard). If you have dragged the .txt file over the AppleHDAPatcher application enclosed in the zip, then audio must be enabled on your machine after a reboot (similar to windows drivers some Apple devices need a reboot to get working).

Do note, whenever you install a major update on your machine (you know like from 10.6.4 to 10.6.5 ) you may lose your audio again, so just redo the steps required for enabling audio as before.

Lets hope that you have a decent and long run with OSX on your hack. I have been using a Hack with OSX right from the days of Leopard 10.5.2 since Jan 2009. Now my love affair with this OS way stronger than ever before .

Even though my work drags me to windows (Eyeon Fusion/Foundry Nuke) for Video Composition & Color Grading I think that there is no better way to enjoy the internet & my whole gamut of multimedia than on OSX. Heck, all of this has gotten me saving for a real Mac Pro along with one of them sexy Cinema Displays.

Rather than open a new thread, I figured I'd keep this one going...

All is well, except I have a USB connected external drive. I have Carbon Copied my system onto one partition, TimeMachine onto another, and finally got all my data stored on a third. This third partition is FAT32 so it can be used by both OSX and Win (if that's relevant).

Anyhow, upon booting I get the Win 7 bootloader allowing me to choose Win 7 or OSX. If I choose Win 7 it boots fine. If I choose OSX - it doesn't.

Without the ExtHDD plugged in, I chcose OSX and I get Chameleon and then boot OSX. But with it plugged in, it doesn't get as far as Chameleon, it sits with a flashing cursor and that's it. I have to disconnect, reboot and then reconnect - not perfect.

Any help?

I assume Chameleon is scanning drives or something... Any way to stop it and have it only present me the 2 options I want?

I don't want to boot from the external HDD, I want chameleon to ignore it...

Installing Chameleon separately on the external HDD wont make it the default boot device. It should just smoothen things over when its plugged in. As long as your Windows partition or the OSX Partition is flagged as boot , all is kosher on your end.
