I need a direct connect type program..

Question

I need a direct connect type program..

I need to download a 900MB file from my friend and I need some ideas..

I have to download a 900MB file.. It's basically a game he tried to make and stuff. We tried using Yahoo! Messenger file sending thingy.. That didn't work, it disconnected after like 7%.. I have DSL, he has T1.. We need to have some sort of program like KaZaA where we can resume downloads if they abruptly stop (Which we dont want to happen).. We tried Neo Modus Direct Connect.. Didnt work.. lol

Please help!!!

You can use, like other guys said, an FTP server, or you can setup your own e-mail server and set the limits of the e-mail message. An easy to use e-mail server can be MDAEMON. You asked about Direct Connect. I don't know where can you get a server, but I can help you with a good client: ODC (http://gempond.com/odc). You could also try MSN Messenger 6.

PM me if you want. I have my own e-mail server with a 2.6 gig file size limit. I'll give you both temp e-mail accounts. Then u can either use my webmail or temporarily setup outlook or something.

The whole notion of emailing a 900MB file is CRAZY - I don't care what your limits are set at. email is not meant for the moving of files! Yes small files can be sent, but come on 900MB???? That is beyond common sense!!

I would suggest if you are having network issues with 900MB, break it up into smaller pieces - winrar will do this very nicely. And you can use it FREE for trial, etc.. This would allow you to send say 9 100MB files, or 900 1MB files using whatever methods you have used in the past for sending each other files.

I would think that the FTP server is a good idea - he does not have to set one up, if he feels that is too much work. You could set it up, or you could find a public one - they do exist. But I would also suggest, that if setting up your ftp server - you take it down as soon as the file xfer is complete. Since if not sure what your doing - quite easy for other people to start using your ftp server for their own uses :) And it might not be allowed in your AUP, but for something of such a personal nature - not public access FTP. I would not feel that is too much of a violation.

If broken up with winrar, or any other file splitting software - you could easy burn the 2 parts 450MB each to CD - and mail them. The mail does go to every corner of the globe - so it really does not matter where you live ;)

budman is right..split that $hit up and ftp it...setting up an ftp server is not that complex..and you'll never learn if you don't try...if you can't be bothered to try that, then good luck in finding another way...

sorry to sound condescending, but i just hate it when people refuse to try something, because they're afraid to do so...
