Sorry, didn't even see your post Shakey, I guess I was clouded by honor that I wanted to save him.

LOL, ya, I didn't want him to die... I had to turn mine off after lunch, which was where I reached that part, so I haven't done it yet. I still want to try and save him lol.

Im afraid of playing Skyrim, I fear I would prefer it to real life.

BTW guys, how leveling works on this game? Like Morrowind or Oblivion that, after some points gained across your skill set, ask you to sleep?

I dont want to be a 50 lvlv character that's high on smithing and speech but a wimp with combat.

Level has changed now. You can not dodge leveling anymore as you could previously. Now, there are no "starting main skills" that make your character. You pick a race, and from there, you build up everything. You level up by learning more and more of each skill. Once you have enough "skill xp" attained, you will level, and you get then 1 skill point per level to put into a skill tree. So if you just start maxing out skills, you will level yourself up. If you start the game and before doing anything, somehow max out blacksmithing and speech, you could screw yourself in fights early, as you will be facing possibly level 12+ creatures, because you will be a high level after maxing those skills, but will have nothing in the fighting and survival skills.... I like this method a lot more than the old way, but I wish there wasn't a hard level cap of 80. I want to max and point it all up!

So you suggest to balance between activities? Fighting, smithing and speech? Is there anyway to bring blacksmith tools to the woods and craft right after a battle? Can you ?evel up smithing by repairing items with a hammer just like oblivion?

Not really a balance, just try not to over do it on the crafting skills too early on. It probably wont hurt you too much, but you definitely don't want to be too underpowered in the fighting skills on some of the quest early on. If you get too high level before putting points into fighting skills, it will take longer to level up and get your fighting skills up to par with the world around you.

I don't believe you can do any repairs outside of a town. I haven't found any hammers or tried to repair anything. But on this, items don't seem to wear down as much really. I am though a mage, so I normally only have to worry about 1 weapon and my cloth armor lol.

Then you craft and repair everything on town only?

I'm level 30 at the moment, and my One-handed is at 60, and my Light Armor is at 56. So combat is still fairly easy, I only get trouble on main dungeon bosses, but that is what Lydia is for! :p Dragon's go down without a blink. (Also mention I am on the XBOX 360 version, so I don't get console command cheats, nor would I, defeats the purpose of the game.)

The value is how much I can sell it to a vendor for, if I find something with 500 value, with all my speech perks and gear, I will get probably 495 out of that item. If I buy a Daedra heart off a vendor (236 for me), I can sell it back for about 230, I did check that last night. Speech is awesome for making easy money, and paired with smithing it is ridiculous.

Dragons take me awhile, but aren't really difficult. I just have to hit them with arrows until they die, which takes a bit but is super easy.

Along with wanting to get speech up for better buy/sell prices, I would also like to get blacksmithing up, but I currently really need to work on one-handed and light armor, although, being stealthy and killing most enemies before they can act makes light armor level really slowly.

One thing I hate about stealth though is enemies seem to have really odd detection, any patrolling mob is really hard to kill with a sneak power attack, because the power attack takes so long to charge up, that they move out of the way before it hits. Others will hear/see me when I'm in a different room, even with muffled shoes and 3 of 5 points in the stealth perk (first one in the tree). Then other times, they will walk up in front of me, almost bumping into me, and not see me, allowing me to stealth kill them from less than a foot in front of their face.

Other then charging weapons with soul gems, there is no "repair" mechanic in this game, because armor and stuff doesn't have a durability and therefor doesn't break.

But when it comes to crafting, you generally have to be in town to do it. You can find random anvils or forges or workbenches outside of towns in random dungeons to do it, but the only sure-fire way is to go to a town.

Then you craft and repair everything on town only?

Yup, but basically finding a town to do that in is no problem. You can also buy homes and equip them with the needed items. While this game is bigger, there are more towns. I also haven't seen any issues with items degrading rapidly enough to warrant there being another repair feature, like the hammer in oblivion. I've used the same axe now for about.... 15 hours of gameplay. It's a Glass Axe ( i know, underpowered compared to a lot of weapons, but still I like it) and I haven't had to repair it yet. With it, I've completed the Mage College, Companion, and Dark Brotherhood quest. Axe still does a ton of damage, and hasn't shown any sign of really needing a repair.

I think they focused more on the building/creating aspects of the merchant skills, and less about maintaining them.

I could swear I repaired my armor once, before I started this main character, on another character build I had........ I could just be getting confused with Dark Souls though. If I am wrong though, would explain why my axe is still working well lol.

Edit, Yup, hes right. There is actually no repair options for any items. Only have to refill enchanted weapons.

It works similar but you don't have to sleep to level up. But don't worry, you'll be just fine at level 50 in combat if you focus on speech and smithing.

So you suggest to balance between activities? Fighting, smithing and speech? Is there anyway to bring blacksmith tools to the woods and craft right after a battle? Can you ?evel up smithing by repairing items with a hammer just like oblivion?

Nope, no crafting in the field and there is no repairing.

Nothing like those games. and you don't have to sleep.

If you become a companion/werewolf, you actually never get to sleep, and lose all sleep bonuses. When you try to sleep, you actually end up just really waiting, and it says, " Because of the beast blood, you were unable to get a restful sleep."

This game actually rewards more focused characters, rather than Oblivion's convoluted system (and apparently Morrowind's as well, though I never played it). It's essentially an indirect XP system, where you get XP for leveling your different skills, and then that XP will level you up. So the higher you go in a certain skill, the more XP you get from leveling that skill, and thus you will level faster.

Your skill levels determine your prowess in combat. There are no more base stats (strength/agility/intelligence). You choose between leveling health, mana, or stamina when you level, and you earn a perk point that you can put anywhere (so long as you meet the required skill level for that perk).

In the end, doing well means leveling the proper skills and choosing the right perks to compliment the way you want to play the game. Obviously those choices become even more important at harder difficulties, but overall the game gives you a lot more freedom about how you want to level your character than the previous games. The only real danger is spreading your character too thin.

I find it to be one of the best leveling systems I've used to date.

I'd love a game that just went back to Ultima Online's level system. Str, Dex, Int are the only stats, just like in this game with Magica, health , stamina. The skills were the same as well, you just didn't have these trees to put points into. I keep feeling like I'm going to put so many hours into this game, only to end up not satisfied that I didn't go down a certain tree far enough or even at all. I want the option to either reset tree skills at a certain level, or the ability to do it all. I mean, If I am to log 500+ hours ( Which I see not being a problem with this type of game ) I want it to be worth my expectations of a end result.

Exactly what I am begging they patch in. I really wish we could reset perks, or pay to remove 1 perk at a time. I would gladly drop 1000 gold per perk to be removed, as I mistakenly put 2 points in stealth, and 1 in block, that will never help me, and when the soft cap is 50, with 80 being a cap that is almost unimaginable to hit (for some), it really sucks.

Though, I read they want people to do multiple play-throughs, so I am guessing they do not want people getting up there, and being rich and always paying for perk removal with there studly rich character to try different types of "classes."

Maybe they could make it a progressive system. 500g for first removal, 1000g for next, and keep increasing it by 500 everytime, with it never going down. So you would still have to think hard about the removal in the first place, and thus also forcing multiple play throughs.

TL/DR: Please let me fix my bonehead beginning of game mistakes, I didn't know any better. :(

I don't understand them expecting multiple play-throughs , when they have also stated that this game has a random quest generator that will keep you playing it endlessly... seems like a mixed message lol.

But ya, I would go for your idea. Hell, even make it 10,000 per point removal. I don't care how hard or tedious it is, just give the option.

I hope this site is telling the truth as well....

Speech is the skill I hate. You can't help but level it as you're always selling

loot. Grr...

I hate having to spend points in it, but I like using intimidate, so yeah. I guess it's worth it? Helps when you aren't so succesful at stealing something from someone, too. Pesky guards.

Thought I would share this with you guys.

Map Location (As you can see, North-ish of Winterhold. Not the black arrow at the top, mind you, that is the cursor.)

Statue Shot

Shrine Activation Lever

Blessings of Talos

I was off running around, exploring different parts of Skyrim, while hoofing it to my bard quest. I came across a location that was seemingly far out, and not marked on the map (I would assume because the worship of Talos is banned, thus why it is not marked, or, they just forgot). So I decided to share it in case anyone was interested. It is a Shrine of Talos, that gives you a blessing, though, from the picture you will see, that the blessing, for some reason does nothing. Kind of weird, maybe a tooltip bug, or something.

Also, by the cage on the left, there are two barrels. On top of one of them you can find a book titled Breathing Water. It increases your Alteration skill by 1.

Hope this helps someone. Happy adventuring!

I love how I've put 12 hours into the game and I've yet to leave Whiterun for quests. SOB!

When you go to pick pocket what does the % mean? I've seen 0% on up to 68% but have no clue if that is success level or what. Also, does it make sense for a Stealth thief to join the Companions? After some reading on the net I guess that is the fighters guild...not sure if it will play a part down the line - I def want to join the Dark Brotherhood.

As much sense as it makes for my mage to join the thiefs guild :p Which I am going to do once I finish up the Dark Brotherhood quest for Shadowmere.

I'm aiming to join everything that I possibly can, except vampires. Their spells are crap, their perks don't outweigh their debuffs, and I don't want to play in night time environments all the freakin time lol. But being a werewolf has only 1 downside, and that is no sleep buffs, but really, who sleeps in this game if it isn't a required part of a quest :p

Alongside Windows 11's new preview builds released this week, Microsoft confirmed version 26H2, which is coming later this year as an enablement package based on the same platform as versions 24H2 and 25H2. A newly published blog post details what IT admins should do to prepare for the upcoming launch. Next, we have new Windows 11 bugs. Users report that this month's security updates for Windows 11 cause all sorts of issues, including BitLocker bugs, OneDrive issues, black screens of death, and third-party integration in Office apps. Microsoft has not confirmed those yet, but it acknowledged other issues with its operating system. What Microsoft has confirmed is a bug where Recycle Bin delete prompts display internal file names instead of actual ones, and a year-old Windows JScript compatibility bug caused by security-focused engine changes. Moving to more positive news, Microsoft and Adobe are working on improving Windows performance in popular creative apps like Photoshop. Thanks to SPGO optimizations, users can expect up to 20% better performance. Finally, we have a few useful articles that can help you recover your PC or make it perform better. For one, we published a guide detailing what to do if your computer cannot boot after a clean Windows 11 install. There are two important steps you can try to get your system back to working in no time. Additionally, there is a more detailed guide on various CPU performance modes that could notably improve performance. This week, Microsoft announced its newest Surface devices powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 processors. There is the 12th-gen Surface Pro and the 8th-gen Surface Laptop. Both devices feature little to no visual differences compared to their predecessors from 2024, and most changes hide inside, including a better processor, faster graphics, enhanced NPUs, and more. The Surface Laptop also received a new haptic trackpad. Mozilla is currently working on a major Firefox redesign, and earlier this week, it published a roadmap of upcoming features and highlights of the upcoming "Project Nova" rework. Files, one of the best file managers for Windows 10 and 11, has been updated in the Preview channel with a long-requested feature. Tree View is finally available in version 4.1.4, allowing you to quickly browse deeply nested folders without leaving the main view. In addition, the update improved the Windows Fonts folder, allowing you to preview each font without opening the default viewer. Rufus, another useful Windows 11 utility, also received a notable update. Version 4.15 arrived as beta with important fixes for silent Windows 11 installation. Overall, the device proved interesting, but not flawless. On the gaming side Learn about upcoming game releases, Xbox rumors, new hardware, software updates, freebies, deals, discounts, and more. Forza Horizon 6 received two big updates this week. Alongside the Series 2 content update, developers pushed plenty of bug fixes and balancing tweaks.
