Man, where to start? I guess now that hardware wise everything has been listed I'll say for me at the end of the day the deal maker was the wide selection of QUALITY exclusives. I've had more fun that I should have been allowed for the price of the PS3 playing titles like Uncharted 2, LBP/2, Heavy Rain, and right now DC Universe Online (patching 2GB as I type btw). I have a stack of many more but those are the more recent. I also really like the customizable but still sexy and laid-back by default UI.

I was recently toying with the idea of a 360 purchase only to play with other friends in COD:BO, but then I found DCUO LOL - So I guess the PS3 as a console saves me tons of money! ;)

I bought my PS3 mainly as a cheap alternative Blu-ray playback device. I'm a massive fan of movies so wanted to upgrade my experience. I've used both the PS3 and Xbox for streaming media from my own media server and have found that the PS3 tends to be a lot more responsive. Both consoles are equally compatible with a number of container formats but the PS3 has a slight edge due to the advancement of PS3MediaServer (which transcodes .mkv files on the fly). The same program does run with the Xbox but it's somewhat laggy. Windows Media Player handles streaming very well, however, but still lacks in the container compatibility deparment.

In terms of games, I don't overly have a preference for either console. Almost every game I have is cross-platform and each console handles them well (with the Xbox taking a slight lead with shaders and framerates) but overall I don't see a difference. I don't prefer the PS3 for its ability to play games, but for everything else.

I bought my PS3 as a Playstation user for years, but i also have a 360 for their exclusives. i've always said it's the games that count. If the console can run the game without any hickups and problems, then that'll do fine. If it's not a perfect PC port, then i'll get it for PC. But i have over 40 games for the PS3 and only about 6 for the Xbox. Free online is a massive win win situation, all my friends got the playstation also. I guess that's the only reasons.

I had to replace my console a couple of months ago, i miss the big bulky original!.

Yeah I miss the bulk and shine of the original, but I do prefer the fact that my slim is pretty quiet now, my fatty was awful for fan noise.

I miss my bulky PS3 as now I have to connect my PS2 and PS1 to play the hundreds of games that I have collected for it. I like the UI and they have some really good exclusive games such as Gran Turismo, God of War, Killzone.

If you have replaced with a slim then there is no need to connect a PS1 it will play those games fine.

Yeah it plays PS1's fine, unfortunately and a horrid reason they didn't choose to support ps2 backwards compatibility. Which is absurd, but thankfully alot of us still have our PS2's set up. Can't knock abit of Resident Evil 4 every now and again.

Although, alot of ps2 games have been flooding the store lately, quick $$$.

Xbox is a peice of sh*t PS3 offers us quality gaming to its fullest in a console, some great exclusives usualy containing losts of features packed into one disc, extremly detailed graphics n uptodate, PS Home a virtual world where ps fans can chat, free content and online, the community its self is not filled with @ssholes like tht of Xbox PS3 ppl are pretty chill, its good looking it self why u think all other consoles are being colored black? BEST SYSTEM, BEST GAMES, QUALITY, IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING, IM OUT NUFF SAID

I just posted this on my Facebook and spotted this topic, so I thought I would share the primary reason I love the PS3 over other consoles. I could get into a whole discussion about what games are available on it, but that's really kind of a subjective topic. I love MGS4, GoW (God of War), and Killzone, and think a lot of the cross-platform games run better on the PS3, but some people prefer titles on the other consoles. Anyway, here's what I wrote.

I've got to hand it to Sony, they really did an awesome job with the PS3. I had one XBox 360 die and I've got friends who have gone through 5 or more due to hardware failures. I had my first Xbox 360 for only about a year and a half before it started giving me the red ring of death. I bought a second one, but sold it shortly after buying my PS3. I've had the same PS3 now for over 3 and a half years, and even when I'm not playing a game it pretty much stays on all day so my wife and baby can watch Netflix and Hulu Plus since we don't have cable. I've never had it give me the first problem, or even the first indication of any problem. If it died today it will have doubled the life of my first Xbox 360, and it has spent the majority of that time running for at least 8 hours a day in some capacity, every single day of the week.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
