ShieldsUP!

The Internet's quickest, most popular, reliable and trusted, free Internet security checkup and information service. Easily check your system here, and begin learning about using the Internet safely.

My results ...

Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist!

One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind. But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion.

Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer.

All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.

Can you pass this test?

heheheheehheh - thanks [source] That made me laugh. I have nothing against grc and Steve's stuff has been useful to alot of people.

Anything that gets people thinking about what open on their box - and thinks about it, before just plugging it into the public net is a GOOD thing!!!

I think Belg.. got it pretty close - stretcher of truths ;) But from what I remember of stuff I have read on Steve's site - its a good read, and can be very useful to alot of people.

But keep in mind - that becuase you click a button on a website - and it says your netbios port is closed, doesn't mean your SAFE :) And I think Steve tries to point that out quite a few times. One thing for sure - if you fail the tests on grc - YOUR WIDE OPEN!

Steve Gibson is the guy who said we'd all be doomed by Windows XP's RAW Sockets and the End of the Internet Was inevitable because of it..

Well its now almost 2 years later and any one with Windows XP appears to be doing just fine.

Yup. "Security Expert"

Also he was the dude who blew up the uPnP Security hole of which Microsoft Patched, his outcry caused many unnessary worries about the uPnP Standard, of which was patched a long time ago and is a great feature for those who use routers.

Thanks for those sites Davey, I am at the moment performing some security tests on my PC. This does seem to be taking a bit more time then than those tests for GRC. So, that makes me think it is doing more. :)

EDIT: My tests are now complete, and below are my results. :)

Trying to gather information from your web browser...

Operating System = Windows XP

Browser = Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

Trying to find out your computer name...

Unable to determine your computer name!

Trying to find out what services you are running...

Unable to detect any running services!

SETI@Home? I am not sure what you are talking about, please explain, thanks. :)

EDIT: I did some investigation of the meaning of the term of which you used, and i do not appreciate those comments toward me, even as this is just an internet message board, please show some respect and courtesy, thanks. :)

SETI@Home? I am not sure what you are talking about, please explain, thanks. :)

heheh no i was talking about how you think its doing something cuz it takes longer.. well SETI@Home (the project stands for Search for Extra-Terrestrial Life... but AT HOME :o..........) is a program you run and it just sits on your tray using up CPU cycles and sending some "decrypted" info to the SETI base.. WTF!!!

and the weirdest thing it has a WIDE range of followers, and people who actually think theyre contributing to SOMETHING (let alone finding intelligent extra-terrestrial life...)

god this sh!t irritates me..

nevemind.. carry on with thread as usual.. :D

Just so you know people, in my original post, i have edited it to include a helpful lil site that checks your Web Browser security.

Called Qualys Browser Check

Its really helpful and i suggest to try it out to see what vulnerabilities your browser has.

    • I disagree here sorry. The majority of their customers are corporations who are locked in to their eco system and have no choice. Private individuals don't contribute that much to their income.
    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Anno 117, Final Fantasy VII, Rematch, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games Store's mystery giveaways may have ended, but its regular freebies didn't miss a step this week. The double drop was for copies of Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. Speed Freeks lands for multiplayer racing fans, but with plenty of competitive shooting elements too. You will be piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures while trying to complete objectives and pass finish lines. Next, Ouroboros King is a crossover between chess and tactical roguelikes, offering the chance to create your own army with special rules to beat incoming foes on the board. The double giveaway on the Epic Games Store will be available until June 11, and replacing it will be Citizen Sleeper and ROBOBEAT. The Humble Store brought a new charity bundle to check out this week too. Landing with the name The Complete Inkle Library, this is a large collection of interactive narrative puzzle games from the publisher Inkle. This begins with Heaven's Vault, four parts from the Sorcery series, 80 Days, Overboard, and Pendragon: Narrative Tactics within the starting tier for $9. Hopping up a step to the $12 tier gets you TR-49, Expelled, and A Highland Song for paying at least $12. If you go for the $20 tier, you get four e-books from the Heaven's Vault series. • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
