RA2 network problem

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am having several issues with RA2 and was hoping you guys would be able to help me out.

I installed Red Alert 2; no problem at all. I can play the single player and it works fine.

But the problem arise when i want to play LAN against my brother.

If I am in the main menu and click "network" i go back to the main menu again, i cant open the network menu.

RA2 uses IPX/SPX for LAN.

I have windows 7 enterprise, so the IPX/SPX is no longer supported. (If I go to options -> network, it says "IPX is not available"

So I googled and found out i had to place a little wsock32.dll in my RA2 folder, then it would work.

But i placed that file in my folder and it is still not working. (if i go to options -> network now, i see 00 00 00 00 00)

Like here: http://logmeinwiki.com/images/c/c6/Image1_618.png

That should be good, but when i click network in the main menu now, i still go back to the main menu.

Does anyknow what the problem might be and how to resolve it?

If you used the wsock.dll patch I don't know why it wouldn't work...

Here's the link: http://www.understorm.net/downloads

Are you both using the latest version of RA2? (1.006)

Make sure with that patch that you run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode or else it won't install!

Are you playing this via Hamachi??

Yes, we both have version 1,006 and we both have windows 7.

It does work for him, but not for me, thats why i think there is something wrong with a firewall somewhere somehow

And no, its not with hamachi, its with our local network

I hadn't actually looked at the link you posted before Candyman... I'm gonna try it out myself later on The First Decade.

To the original poster... are you using a standalone normal RA2 disc, or The First Decade? That could make a difference...
