Weird High CPU Problem with CMD Prompt on Windows 7

Typing in Command Prompt causes Explorer to Max out my CPU

Ive tested it out alot, basicly when I type anything explorer.exe uses up my whole CPU

Im running Windows 7

Are typing it in the search field? If you open up a 'Run' dialog box (keyboard shortcut 'Windows Key'+R) I don't think it would do this.

are you talking about command prompt or explorer? they are two different things

Im talking about command prompt, I open up process explorer to see what is wrong and when I have command prompt open and am typing into it, process explorer shows that Explorer.exe is taking up 100% cpu.

I find this highly unlikely.. Could you please post some screen shots showing this??

example -- here I just tested and don't see the cpu do anything at all..

could you do the same thing please so we can see this.. The performance meter is better since it shows over time and would see the spikes even after you done and taking the screen shot.

Has the computer been running slower for you as well? Or as the computer been running great other than the high CPU issue with text entry?

I was going to say if the computer has been also running a lot slower than normal, then it's possible your Hard drive controller in the device manager switched itself from DMA to Pio mode. That can can high CPU usage by doing simple tasks. Once again that kind of behavior is common with bad sectors. Might be something, might be nothing, just thought I would throw that out there.
