Shadrack
I'm looking for a replacement for my old Handspring Visor Delux (the screen is crapping out) and I'm really attracted to the Palm m515. Although reading this forum makes me want to go with some Pocket PC. I like how much larger the Pocker PC's screen size is, and how you can play MP3s. But With the Palm m515 I like: The size (I want something that will fit in my pocket easy) and the Price (on ebay I can get it new for under $200) I'm not concerned with wireless networking or any of that. And I could careless about a camera on my PDA, although being able to view pictures from the SD slot would be nice :). So I think i'm going to get it. I would go for a pocket PC if there was one out there that was slim enough for me and was priced well. Any advice. Roger H. Veteran Posted August 6, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 6, 2003 have you checked out the HP Ipaq 1945. It comes with Bluetooth, 64MB of ram, WM 2003 and yeah.. the most atractive point (in your view) is that is' .5" thick! (yes 1/2 inch) http://www.brighthand.com/article/HP_iPAQ_h1940_Review Theres a review and here's a pic: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/96595-is-the-palm-m515-the-pda-for-me/#findComment-1107925 Share on other sites
Joel
I have the m515, no complaints from me. It also replaced a Handspring Visor Deluxe. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/96595-is-the-palm-m515-the-pda-for-me/#findComment-1107948 Share on other sites
Shadrack
OMG I WANT IT! Yeah... that looks real nice. A bit more expensive but the idea of being able to use terminal services to my desktop through bluetooth sounds great! Does that work pretty good? I'm primarily interested in the ability to use it to remote control media (sound and video going out the TV-Out). OOPL
I went from a Visor Deluxe to Audiovox Maestro to HP iPaq 2210. I really like it a lot. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/96595-is-the-palm-m515-the-pda-for-me/#findComment-1107979 Share on other sites

This guy was gonna buy a Sony NX?? and i got him to get a 2215. I was showing him everying i can do on mine and then have him try that out on the sony (demo that was there) and it took alot longer to do certain stuff and some stuff he just couldn't.... that's that he said, switching! And he was like these people (circuit city managers) should give me a job cuz i really know what's up with these devices. I knew bout both devices pretty well :D If your laptop/PC has a BT connection too then you should be able to even tho it's probably not that fast as wi-fi since BT is only 760+Kbps so it might be laggin or maybe not. I dunno, i haven't tried it. I think it (1945) has the cIR (consumer IR) too so you should be able to control your devices from 20 ft away :D I'm not sure but i think it and the 2215 comes with Nevo (2215 for sure) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/96595-is-the-palm-m515-the-pda-for-me/#findComment-1108008 Share on other sites
AndyD
Besides ebooks shotta, what do you use your pocketpc for? just can't find enough reasons to buy one :) I dont want to spend 400+ on something that I'll be bored with immediately. Shadrack
AndyD: thats a good point you bring up. The Palm m515 is still smaller then that iPaq mentioned, and will probably everything that I *need* it to do. I think I want the iPaq now for the MP3 playing options, bigger brighter screen, and the possiblity of using it as a sorta "remote" for my PC to control the media through bluetooth. Roger H. Veteran Posted August 8, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 8, 2003 the 1945 is your baby then... if you need CF that bad (bigger cards, 4GB CF or CF wi-fi then get the 2215. If you lucky you can get it for $267 from HP with student discount) :D I'm glad about my 2215 tho and wouldn't take it back even if you gave me $300! GeeZuZz
I had a Palm m515 and here is my oppinons: Positive: Real small/light, and looks really nice Negative: Display: Compared to my Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC, the display has low resolution (you can see the pixels). The image is also much darker and less colorful. OS: The worst part about Palm. PalmOS SUCKS! The reason is simpy because it only accepts .prc and .pdb filetypes. If you have a digital camera using SD card, you could just insert it into your Pocket PC and watch the pictures. If you want that on a Palm, you first have to get a converter to convert the files to .prc! A pocket PC accepts all files you use on a PC. SO MUCH SIMPLER! Battery: My Axim X5 lasts much longer than palm M515 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/96595-is-the-palm-m515-the-pda-for-me/#findComment-1120288 Share on other sites
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 31, 2003 Veteran Share Posted August 31, 2003 well guess i learned something today.. didn't know about that... If you want that on a Palm, you first have to get a converter to convert the files to .prc! There are several image viewers for PlamOS that can view images on a memory card, straight out of a camera. SplashPhoto and AcidImage are just two of them. Get your facts straight. And PalmOS also supports much higher resolutions than Pocket PC. PalmOS 5 supports 160 x 160, 320 x 320 and 320 x 480. Version 5.3 will support more resolutions such as 240 x 320. plasticparadox
Galley_SimRacer is right. You can upload JPEGs to your Palm without conversion. I use SplashPhoto on my m505 with no problems.
