The Setting Info credit

Three Thousand Years before the rise of Darth Vader...

The Galactic Republic stood for generations as a bastion of peace in a galaxy of warring star systems. Protected by its stalwart Jedi guardians, the Republic held the greatest hope for the progress of civilization and galactic unity.

Deep in unknown space, however, a mighty Sith Empire was forged, led by dark Sith Lords who dreamt of galactic domination and vengeance against their ancient Jedi enemies. After centuries of preparation, the time came for the Sith to make their return.

With a massive fleet and an awe-inspiring army of fearless troops, the Sith Emperor launched a surprise assault, quickly capturing dozens of worlds in the Outer Rim, and sparking a war unlike any other in the galaxy?s history.

From the frozen wastes of Ilum to the desert plains of Dathomir, violent battles killed untold millions. Despite its avowed neutrality, surface structures on the water-covered world of Manaan were completely destroyed, forcing the Selkath to retreat to their ocean underworld. Other star systems fared worse?some destroyed, others left uninhabitable. The carnage concluded with the Sith Empire sacking the Republic's capital planet of Coruscant and forcing the Republic Senate into the controversial Treaty of Coruscant.

In the years since the treaty, fear and uncertainty have gripped the galaxy, enabling the Sith Emperor to pursue his own mysterious purposes while the Republic has made efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and adjust military priorities to the new galactic landscape.

Now, tensions between the Republic and the Empire are running high, and a series of border skirmishes and proxy wars have broken out, even on planets as historically peaceful as Alderaan. The uneasy truce established by the Treaty of Coruscant is quickly tearing apart at the seams, and a return to all-out war has begun in all but official terms.

A new generation of heroes, both light and dark, emerges to face the difficulties of these chaotic times, and fight for the fate of the galaxy in this most desperate age.

Now that's an official thread. (Y) I'm really looking forward to this game. I'm not a huge fan of the MMO genre but BioWare might change that. I loved them since the KOTOR days so I have faith that they'll deliver a solid game.

I'm really looking forward to this game. Thanks for starting this thread. I signed up and hopefully I'll be able to participate in the beta. :D

Nice! I just hope there isn't a monthly fee, or I will be on this like a kid on a chocolate bar!

There will most definitely be a monthly fee for this.

how new are those screenshots? they look better than the last time i looked. game looks better every time i take a new look. i wonder if the animations have improved that much as well.

this is one of the games i'm looking forward to this year. could be a contender for the first real competition to wow, but i think at worst it will be a decent mmo compared to years of blockbuster "wow killers'" spectacular retention rates.

i post on the guild forums from time to time and wow do these prelaunch guilds that are already recruiting have some strange ideas about mmo's. thinking their "core" of 50-100 members is small and tight knit and will stay interested enough up to and after launch due to having strict forum and vent requirements. there's even a hardcore raid pvp guild claiming they will get all the world firsts in the game based on dubious claims of being in region first wow guilds despite never having played together except in wow p server raiding(LULZ!). then when you make a recruit me post you get spam from 20 different recruiters and you check out their guilds and you have to wonder if they actually read your post at all.

There will definitely be a monthly fee. They haven't said anything about pricing yet though.

I'm glad you liked the thread! :D

BioWare is actually what got my cousin into the MMO genre. I too have a lot of faith they will deliver an awesome experience.

Release date is getting near, so I figured I would go ahead and write a thread. I'm hoping everyone finds it useful!

Let me know if you get in to the beta! I can't wait to hear what people think about it!

Screenshot #1, #2, and #4 are from December 2010. Screenshot #3 is from late November 2010. They're very recent. :)

I think this game has a lot of potential to be amazing! I really hope it does well!

The funny thing is, I noticed the EXACT same thing. I've seen the most ridiculous threads that I seriously just laugh at. It gets funny, it really does!

Well its an mmo, mmo's typically have either monthly fee or micro-transactions but jury's still out on those, mainly I guess because initially you can make more off the monthly subs.

Eitherway, very much looking forward to this game but im still not sold on it being an mmo. Looks more like theyve made an awesome MASSIVE single player game where you occasionally work with other players if you choose.

bring on my sith toon!!

Also wouldnt be holding your breathe for the original 2011 launch date. Likely wont be out till Q3 maybe Q4.

Well, if i were to trust anyone to make a WoW contender it would be Bioware.

that's my thinking too. i don't like every bioware game, but they are quality dev studio withe financial backing and blessing of their publisher to do it.

unlike wow, swtor is going to need to be very polished and live up to 100s of hours of playtime per class.

ofc there's always going to be the power gamers who speed level to "endgame" within a month or less and complain there is no content there.

personally i'm looking for something that will keep me interested past the first month.

btw i plan on rolling a jedi sentinel. i would prefer a single saber jedi but not into being a tank. my alt will be a smuggler. unless i get pushed into rolling sith inwhich case i'll go sith warrior main and bounty hunter alt.

I'm really struggling to decide which class I want to be. At one point, I had cut it down between Sith Warrior and Jedi Knight. Then, there was an update on their site that really made Trooper seem like an amazing experience. So now, I'm back at having to decide between three classes.

Bah Monthly fee sucks. Wish there wasn't.

Monthly fees don't really cost that much compared to the time an average MMO player spends on the game in a month. The good thing about the fees is they kill spammers pretty well, a fact which is then completely nulled once free trials come out. :p

Its got to be some sort of melee class for me, preferably a lightsaber weilder

Otherwise I'm giving serious thought to a character that is good at crafting/jury rigging and handy with a blaster - in fact I might do this first

If you're in to crafting, you should check THIS out!

Smuggler, Trooper, Imperial Agent, and Bounty Hunter are the blaster wielding classes.

Definitely continue to give serious thought about what class you want to choose, as I think they mentioned at one point in time that you will NOT be allowed to swap classes.

well you can always reroll but at level 10 you choose your advanced class like for jedi knights it's guardian(tank) or sentinel (mdps) and after that you are stuck with your AC on that toon.

also the crafting looks cool. queue up your crafting plan on your ship and go back to questing and a few hours later you have some super cool items to wear or sell. i might actually craft in this game.

Crafting is definitely something I want to get really experienced with. A lot of money can definitely be made with Crew Skills! :D

I'm hoping this Friday, they'll have another update on Crew Skills. There is still a lot to be revealed about it.

Well although I never got into the first one, I signed up for an account just in case I do get into this one this time around. That, and I was able to get DirtyLarry as my name, so I am happy about that. (Y)

they running another round of beta invites?

I'm pretty sure BETA hasn't started yet. When you make an account, you select the option stating that you are willing to participate in the BETA when it begins. When it does, they'll notify you if you've been accepted.

It has started.

I did some research. According to the FAQ, it hasn't. I guess it hasn't been updated yet.

According to Joystiq though, it has. This article is from July 2010. [Link]

My apologies. :)

    • Rockstar gives last-gen GTA V players free upgrades tomorrow by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Rockstar is preparing to launch Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but ahead of that, the company has revealed a new offer for some Grand Theft Auto V owners. It today announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version owners of the 2013-released title will soon be receiving a free upgrade to the current generation version. The studio released the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2022, bringing significant upgrades to the original console editions. This included 60 FPS gameplay at up to 4K resolution, as well as major upgrades to textures, draw distance, and audio. Faster load times, ray tracing elements, and HDR support were also added with it. While this new and enhanced version needed a new purchase of the game to jump in, now Rockstar has decided to make it a free upgrade, dropping the $40 price tag entirely on consoles. "Beginning tomorrow, those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online," said the company in an official blog post. The free upgrade offer will be released tomorrow, June 18, for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who will be jumping in on the offer will want to check how to migrate their GTA Online profile from last-generation to current-generation consoles by heading over here. The offer lands ahead of The Kortz Center Heist hitting Grand Theft Auto Online, where players and crews will be tasked with stealing priceless international art from a prestigious gallery in Pacific Bluffs. It doesn't look like Rockstar plans to stop updating its previous game even with Grand Theft Auto VI being on the horizon. The latest title is slated to launch on November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

    • Rufus 4.15.2391 Beta by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.15.2391 Beta changelog: Improve the guards for using the "silent" option Improve the ability to cancel during write retries Fix unrestricted XML entity expansion and integer overflow in ezxml parser (courtesy of @esadowski4) [GHSA-55r2-34wg-8mv9] Fix "silent" Windows installation failing at 75% in most cases [#2960] Fix a crash during boot when using UEFI:NTFS on Snapdragon X based ARM64 platforms [#2934] Fix the first WUE option always being checked by default [#2965] Fix an infinite loop when using Windows ISOs that contain multiple WIMs Fix "Enable runtime UEFI media validation" checkbox not always being properly enabled Other WUE improvements/fixes for OneDrive removal and username validation (with thanks to @christian8641) [#2984, #2991] Download: Rufus 4.15 Beta | 1.9 MB (Open Source) Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.82 Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.4.2550 Updated MPC Audio Renderer A few crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements.
