Counter Strike Problem

Okay, I got a new comp off newegg.com. YAY... specs below. Anyway, I wanted to install my favorite game of all time.... CS! (cheers) I hadn't played it for quite a while, but i installed it, and went up on the CS home page and got the 1.5 update (fileplannet took SOOOO long) ok so I got the update, everything is looking good and I'm ready to play. I go to join a game, and It starts to connect and then starts downloading a ton of files. Which appear to be sound files for the weapons, game files, etc. then it goes and goes and goes untill it gets to a file called "cm" i believe, and just sits there. I let it gor for over thirty minutes, and it didn't even start a download bar at the botton of the screen. I can't go without CS. Can someone help me? _ (I'm new to these boards.)

I dont see why you would ahve to download all that crap. Did you try connecting to another server? Did you install HL 1.1.1.0 as well?

Try a different server, some servers have custom mods that require downloads.

I tried like 30 servers, heh no joke. I didn't install HL 1.1.1.0 I dont exactly knwo what that is. I went out and bought CS retail off the shelf a long time ago. I don't remember it having to dl all this stuff, the last time I installed it on my old comp. At first I thought it was just map downloads a junk, but its like m4a1 sounds and like sprites and stuff.

The "Crap" are server mods that allow sounds and stuff.

You can disallow downloads through the program hlves,

and yeah, have you tried connecting to other servers?

as for the download bar stopping, sometimes opengl stops drwaing the bar, so dont worry if it stops right at the end, its a normal occurance

I hate that mod stuff, it annoys the heck outa me. But I tired many servers.

Your installation may of gotten messed up some how and it might not be able to find all those files. Perhaps try reinstalling.

I let it download and sit for like 20 mins. and It didn't change at all.

not only do you need to update counter strike, but you need to update half life to version

1.1.1.0

The way to tell is on the bottom right of the menu screen.

Or easier yet do you have the multiplayer mod richochet?

I will reinstall. You don't think I need any of the other files at the CS web site? like the 1.5 mod and stuff?

Do you have retail or mod?

You must install 1.1.1.0 FULL for HL

You wont connect without it.

He has CS retail. You don't need to update HL for that.

I'm not familiar at all with retail version, But I was almost 100% sure you need to update half life, since it is the engine. unless the retail package was recently updated :huh:

Yes it would. You can't install a HL patch without having HL installed. CS retail doesn't include HL.

One of the multiplyaer games called ricochet is included in the 1.1.1.0 update package.

Its like TFC.

Well the retail is only CS. Not halflife. So when it says please select your directory where hl is installed for the update, you choose the CS directory.

Wait a minute... that doenst make sense to me :p ,

because although cs retail is a stand alone, it still runs off the same valve halflife engine, therefore woudln't it need to be updated like everything else???

This is an error for the free Half-Life mod version of CS. This means that you don't have the latest Half-Life patch installed. Go here to download the latest HL patch file.

If you have broadband why not just use STEAM that will enable you to play CS 1.6 on a pletheroe of servers. And all the files needed are downloaded prior to playing (around 400mb).

AHHHHHH 1.6 is awful :cry:

I thought i woudl like it... WOW i did not.

The shield is fun for a while but really changes the whole game, not worth it (N)

Here is your solution:

You didn't update your HL before your CS. You must fully update your HL before updating your CS otherwise you will get the error:

"could not load library C:\SIERRA\HALFLIFE\/cstrike/cl_dlls/client.dll"

Just delete and reinstall that way.

Steam on the other hand, is a buggy piece of crap, and the 1.6 Beta still isn't as popular as 1.5 because 1.5 users know Steam is a buggy piece of crap, 1.6 full version is coming out soon anyways, and I'm hoping they will give us the option of Steam and client side updates.
