Seven - Firefox 4 theme

Recommended Posts

I'd like to get an update out this week to fix the Firefox menu and the notification popups. I'm quite busy with a few other projects so this isn't getting as much attention as I wanted to give it. Do you guys know of any other bugs that I can take a look at?

Not on my computer now, but in the firefox menu, one of the icons isn't lined up with the others. I believe it is the bookmarks star one. I can post a screenshot later today.

Edit: Actually it is the word "Downloads" in the firefox menu. Looks like it's centered, while everything else is on the left. Not sure if this was on purpose.

Just wondering, how does uploading a theme to the add-on site work? Does Mozilla have to approve it first?

They do require some preliminary reviews, but that is usually quick. You can still download it before it's reviewed though.

Anyways here is alpha2 Download.

There are still a lot of bugs because I based the original theme on old code. Mozilla has made a lot of changes since then so some things may appear broken. Ideally I wanted to wait for a complete rewrite before I released anything else, but I don't want to keep delaying it. Give this a try, but note that the addon-bar is a bit broken.

Don't see anything wrong with the add-on bar. Is there anything specific you would like us to look at?

Well I think mostly everything is functional. I didn't find anything really broken in my tests, if you come across anything that looks really out of place besides the options/info window go ahead and post that. I know I should fix the text in the urlbar some people didn't like how it was blue then black on hover.

That options dialog looks amazing. This may be a steep request, but would it be possible to port this to Stylish? I currently use my own set of Stylish tweaks to bring a Windows 7 style to my browser, and I would love for the options dialog to be skinned as well. However, applying your full theme breaks most of my scripts. Thanks.

Sorry for the extremely late reply. Currently the options dialog relies on some XML binding and unfortunately userstyles.org doesn't allow them for security reasons.

1.1b1

TabsToolbar.png

New tab overflow with some toolbar buttons. New tab is default, downloads is hover, and tab groups is pressed.

VerticalTabs.png

Tree Style Tab style heavily inspired by Stephen Horlander's work here

Changelog:

New style for tab scroll arrows and buttons when placed in the TabsToolbar

New style for add-on bar toolbar buttons

New vertical tab style for use with Tree Style Tab

Fixes for tabs on bottom

Fixed missing icons in AOM for Firefox 6a

Fixed Download Statusbar buttons

Fixed compatibility with Tree Style Tab

Fixed some toolbars being vertically aligned (error console, web console)

Add-on bar is 2px smaller. Should now be the same height as the default one

I ended up rewriting a lot of the toolbar and tab code so I hope it is more compatible with other add-ons. I'm sure there is more but these are the main points that I remember.

^^ Awesome work Soapyhamhocks ^_^ I have one small request that could you make the inactive tabs a bit more brighter? I'm finding it hard to see the inactive tab texts a little hard to see when using dark themes and backgrounds. Other than that nice work (Y)

Thank you :)

Improving the tab readability is something I'm really concerned about. I'm really stumped though. I think the solution would be to make the nav-bar a bit darker and the inactive tabs more solid. I'm going to try some things and see what I can come up with.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
