Disable Internal Microphone on iPhone 4

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

So when I used to have a 3GS and plugged in my headphones with built in Microphone it'd disable the Internal Microphone so that I could make calls and leave the iPhone in my pocket.

Since having the iPhone 4 this has not been the case, the Internal Microphone remains active and I cannot have my iPhone in my pocket as all the person I'm calling can hear is the scruffling noise of the phone bouncing around in my pocket.

Anyone else experienced this? Kinda makes the Microphone headphones and Bluetooth headsets redundant don't you think?

Any ideas guys?

Chris

Hum... I never noticed such an issue with my 4... Maybe it's not your internal microphone but rather your headphones. The noise from the cable rubbing on your jacket or something transferred to your mic... I had that issue once with the headphones that came with my 3G, turned out a cable was cracked and produced sucha noise...

But afaik, the internal mic will be shut off when making calls with your headphones - unless, your phone is somehow broken.

hmmm agreed on something faulty.THOUGH this scenario has happened to me in a similar way:

1. Making calls using headphones that don't have a mic. It's like the microphone goes ultrasensitive.

However if I use teh apple supplied headset I don't have such an issue. What brand is your headset?

Hmm, I got mine off of eBay cause they were way cheeper than ordering them directly from Apple. The ones I got with the phone broke after about 15 minutes.

That Said, I was going to order these: http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/home_en.nsf/root/private_headsets_mobile_music_504161?Open&cnt=introxgeneral

But if you guys think only Apple headphones will work properly I'll order another set.

Use the Support website, you paid for the warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apple are fantastic at replacing broken headphones. New pair next day and envelope to return faulty pair.

    • Microsoft now allows you to tweak Visual Studio to new extremes by Usama Jawad Visual Studio 2026 recently netted a powerful feature that finally allows developers to review Git Pull Requests (PRs) directly in the integrated development environment (IDE), without needing to switch to the browser. However, that's not all that Microsoft introduced in the latest version, as it also offered a useful way to customize the IDE to their heart's content. Although Visual Studio 2026 already provides lots of stock themes based on Fluent Design principles, Microsoft understands that people still want to customize them further according to their preferences. The IDE now offers a new configuration page for themes under Tools > Options > Environment > Visual Experience > Theme colors. This allows you to set hex color codes for accent colors, hover states, and more, and apply them without requiring a restart. The Redmond tech giant further says that: Microsoft is also offering granular color tokens that allow you to customize various UX elements like the tab header without impacting the rest of the shell chrome. Your themes are also stored in JSON format in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\18.0_xxxxxxxx\ColorThemes, which basically enables you to share it with others or override existing themes. This is a major improvement in terms of the user experience powering these customization capabilities. This is because extensions were required to replace the theme, and it was not very easy to make minor adjustments. This theme configuration UX solves this problem and is available in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, available here.
