Linksys wired and wireless issues need help configuring

Recommended Posts

I have 2 Linksys Routers...one is wired and the other is wireless.

The wired connection has an ip of 192.168.1.1

the wireless connetion has an ip of 192.168.0.1

both routers are configured to use DHCP

The problem I am having is...

The wireless computer gets an ip of 192.168.0.37 and from my networking knowledge the reason why no shares can be accessed is because this ip of the wireless is on a different subnet.

What would be the best way to setup this network so that the wireless connection can access all of the wired shares? Disable DHCP and set a static ip would be my first choice but after trying to configure it that way I lose my wireless connection.

Thanks for any help much appreciated.

2 routers

cable/dsl/fios modem---router1-----router2

If you want router 2 to be on the same network as router 1, do not use the internet port on router2. Put a piece of tape over the internet/wan/outside port on router2 so you don't use it. configure router 2 to have an ip address in the router1 range, make it x.x.x.254 if you want. Disable DHCP on router2. Now anything that connects to router2 will be on the same network as router1 and pull all dhcp requests from router1.

yup sc302 beat me to the punch on this one.. I would of ended up giving much more detail, etc. But he hit on the high points. I would of also pointed out this link

Yes you do - have never said anything different ;) Your MVC was well deserved as well!!! You remove your avatar? Or did you never have one - just noticed you don't have a picture up?? Maybe I had one to many beers after work? ;)
