Playstation "Suite", Android PS Store Announced

Sony doesn't, besides this would never be allowed on the iPhone anyway.

Even on android this needs to be donwloaded manually, since google don't allow other app sotres on the app store. iPhone don't allow other app stores period.

What are you talking about? If sony is doing this its because they are probably working with Google. All the things sony-google lately should be an indication that they are working very close.

And why wouldnt this be allowed? amazon has their own market place for android apps. This is probably gonna be an app that you download and the store will be within the app.

I think he is referring to the current regulations of the Android market which don't allow apps which are essentially their own appstore i.e. they download data to provide access to multiple games/apps from within their own. Like you said however, I hope Google work with the big names and allow them more access than normal developers.

I was talking worldwide. Has Android taken over?

Give it time :p Android is rising in market share at a rate that will see 2011 being very interesting for both parties. Sony have clearly backed Android with their recent Arc and Xperia Play releases and now the PS Store will provide Android with a much needed boost in its gaming market. They're helping themselves by improving Android and this in turn could definitely damage iOS market share in the future.

Android only? Fail. How about the more popular iPhone?

Exactly or even WP7* is better choice for that matter, not to mention Android's fragmentation is going wreck further havoc as you need Android 2.3 (which means unless you own the latest hardware, your out of luck) and even if you root your older device to run 2.3, no guarantee the PlayStation Suite will support your device. Don't get me wrong I love my HTC Desire and Android, but it's still got a long way to go...that is my 2 cents take with a grain of salt.

I am totally excited for this whole Android/Playstation thing that's coming together. The PS3 could use some Android lovin' too. :woot:

It's interesting for sure but honestly I see it blowing up in their faces as they chosen the wrong platform. Even the upcoming WP7* would of been a better choice, considering all devices run the same OS and you know the hardware they'll be packing (thanks to MS's stringent hardware requirements) guaranteed maximum penetration of devices, with Android it's more like pot luck. Well that is my 2 cents take with a grain of salt.

* I'm aware WP7 is actually a bad choice since Live and PSN are direct competitors, I was just referring to the more uniform/centralized nature of WP7 (and iOS for that matter) is better suited to what Sony is trying to do, if that makes any sense at all?

Let's agree to disagree. I think this is the very thing Sony needs to get right in order to pull ahead of Nintendo and Microsoft. Integration via PSP2 and Suite coupled with size of the Android userbase could lead to some huge gains in areas they have been lacking for the past few years.

Yeah, that won't happen as far as pulling ahead of Microsoft. They are already on mobile devices with WP7 and XBL, Xbox with XBL and PC with GFL.

    • Yeah, kind of odd. I would understand it more if it was an exclusive, but to launch on both consoles and not PC seems like an odd choice.
    • I predict Rockstar is gonna shock everyone and release one version and one version only at $70!
    • Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat are free to claim on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe PC gamers have two more games they can add to their library without needing to open their wallets, as the Epic Games Store's freebie offer has just refreshed. That means last week's Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King offer has been replaced by two new games, which happen to be Robobeat and Citizen Sleeper copies. From the duo, Robobeat lands from developer Simon Fredholm, offering a rhythm-based action game. Released only last year, the title puts you into the shoes of Ace, a bounty hunter that's targeting the robot showman Frazzer. The fast-paced title offers movement techniques like wall-running, sliding, and bunny hopping to zoom around while shooting enemies, but the requirement is doing everything to the beat. Outside of built-in tracks, the title also lets players upload their own music to populate its levels too. Next, Citizen Sleeper lands from Jump Over The Age, a sci-fi RPG adventure taking place in a ruined space station where thousands of people are trying to survive. The tabletop RPG-inspired title uses things like dice and clocks to change how the player approaches situations and survives their day-to-day lives. There is a large range of characters to meet with in the station, each with their own storylines and alliances. "You are a sleeper, a digitised human consciousness in an artificial body, owned by a corporation that wants you back," says the developer about the setting. "Thrust amongst the unfamiliar and colourful inhabitants of the Eye, you need to build friendships, earn your keep, and navigate the factions of this strange metropolis, if you hope to survive to see the next cycle." The Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat giveaways are set to run until June 25 on the Epic Games Store, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, new freebies will take its place on the same day. They are supposed to be copies of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Voidwrought. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.
