Man people can be meen. Hey, I like the way it's comig along, it would have gone great with my neowin visual style... that i never finished. BUT i did start working on it again. Anyway That last screeny you posted looks purple? Try and make it blue and it would look great!

Colour change has been done, m2x-ADMIN, and the boot screen is now available on ThemeXP. No need to worry about Service Packs this time as the boot screens are SP0, SP1, and SP2-Beta compatible. Here's the link:

There's three beta build for SP2. You may forgot about that.

I'm pretty sure those will work with the boot screen file (NTOSKRNLSP.EXE) I provided. It's for SP1 and the beta builds of SP2, as I have obtained from swissboy, who is a boot creating maniac. So no worries about there. The NTOSKRNL.EXE file is for those with no Service Pack installed. :)

Well it's been almost a year and a half (and almost 7 000 downloads later, LOL) since I published this version of the Neowin boot screen. However, I was kind of unimpressed lately with the glow effect. I wanted to reload the original source files in order to clean up the glow effect and port the screen to SP2, but I lost them when my hard drive suddenly got fried a couple of weeks before I moved from Moncton, NB to Lennoxville (Sherbrooke), Qu?bec. And with University life being incredibly busy, I was unable to put any real focus on my graphic art.

Well today, since I didn't have too much to deal with, I thought I'd redraw the logo just for kicks and eventually turn it into an SP2-compliant boot screen. I still have to put in the progress bar and work on the other resources, but here's the base image for Neowin II (which I believe is much cleaner than the original):

BTW, it was unfortunate that I was unable to make additional colours for the boot screen, but I'll see what I can do this time.

The problem with the real logo is that it's not completely symmetrical, and that impedes my ability to insert various effects. I always like to redraw something from scratch instead of just copying the old logo (makes things even more interesting to work on), so over the next few months (depending on what time I have available), I'll be redrawing most of my older boot screens in order to clean them up a bit and make them SP2-compliant as I kind of stopped work on them in March 2004.

hehe quite good... keep it up  needs to have the current, default blue and logo tho IMO...

btw whats the difference with SP1 bootscreen and SP2 one? the above image seems to have more colors... (well more than 16)... is that the difference?

thanks

Actually, in that preview image, I didn't run the Colour Indexing yet, but I did correct the colour to the proper hue of Blue. The only real difference between the Boot Screen available for SP1 and Gold releases and the work in progress for SP2 is that I concentrated the glow to inside the logo instead of having the colours get scattered all over the place. As soon as I have the new screen completed, I'll let you know.

After doing the Indexing and the latest colour changes, this is what the boot screen should roughly look like once it's done. Still have a bug tweaking the "Hibernate" (renamed Saving Session) bar and I got a couple of resources to replace. Once this is done, virtually every resource would be tweaked to the hilt (even the Diagnostic Screen whenever you have to type in "chkdsk /f" and restart).

    • AFAIK you shouldn't be getting a consent popup at all from Canada, so I think it is to do with a VPN or private/secure DNS.
    • From what I see it's only for Insider - preview builds. Not for everybody. So...
    • Of course, all of that sounds great on paper... No it doesn't!
