Connecting iPad to wireless network with WPA2 AES

Recommended Posts

I did a little bit of searching but could not find anything conclusive to help me out.

We have a client who has an Ipad. We have just installed some Cisco APs on the network. We have created to separate wireless networks, one has either WEP or No encryption that is used for public access. There is a separate wireless network that is running WPA2 AES that connects to the internal network. The Ipad can connect no problem to the public network, but it is having issues connecting to the network with the WPA2 AES encryption. What happens when we try to connect is that it is spotty, meaning try a couple times and it won't connect but if you try again it will connect. The problem is when it eventually connects, it keeps dropping the connection and reverting to the public connection.

Are there some troubleshooting steps I need to try? We are manually configuring the settings since we are not broadcasting the SSID for the private network. The only thing I could thing of is to have the IOS software updated on the Ipad as I don't believe it has been since it was purchased a few months ago. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, try updating it, my iPod Touch (same OS version) connects fine to WPA2 AES networks.

And try with showing the SSID as well, it won't hurt.

Ok, thanks. I'm hoping the IOS update will make a difference, but I just wanted to see if others had any problems.

I remember the iPad had some WiFi connection issues on early firmware versions. I would definitely recommend updating to the latest version and see if it's any better.

Oh? I thought Apple said that was a "low end" wireless AP router issue? strangely affected most high end Cisco Wireless AP's but oddly not the Apple AirPort...

Just wanted to post an update to this thread. It was a simple solution actually, all we had to do was broadcast the SSID and everything worked fine. Thanks for your help :)
