Chronic Dev Team unleashes greenpois0n, untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1

gre2333npois9en01.jpg

It's finally here, folks. The Chronic Dev Team has put out the latest version of greenpois0n that allows you to free your iDevice running 4.2.1. What's different about this jailbreak? Glad you asked. This time 'round, the program will let you perform an untethered jailbreak -- you can finally reboot the device without having to re-jailbreak. Be warned though -- this build was rushed out and we haven't tested any devices on our end. At the time of this writing, the software is only available for Mac. Oh, and unlockers, don't update to 4.2.1 if you plan on swapping sim cards in the future. Hit the source link to get started.

Reports are that it doesn't work on Mac using a standard install. To get round this, install from terminal using sudo open greepois0n.app, and hold the home button down throughout the device.

On mine, it didn't install Cydia as the loader was blanking out after install. I used redsnow to just add the cydia package. This could probable be sone via SSH.

Good release, and thanks to everyone at the Chronic team.

greenpois0n is now also available for Windows:

It's been a painful two days, hasn't it? If you're a Windows user looking for an untethered jailbreak for your iDevice, the answer is most certainly "yes." The Chronic Dev Team has just let loose the greenpois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, but unlike the build released 48 hours ago, this one's meant for Wintel boxes. The team's site seems to be down at the moment (shocker!), but there's a download mirror linked below if you just can't wait to get going. As always, we'd caution you to back up your iPad, iPod touch or iPhone before doing the deed, and since it's the first of its kind (for this version of iOS, anyway), we'd be ready to see a few bugs along the way. Minor details, we know.

About to try this I've been pulling my hair out waiting for it! (Windows Version on an Ipod Touch 4G 4.2.1)

Let you all know how it goes

EDIT: Couldn't have gone any smoother. Cydia installed cleanly as well. THANK YOU CHRONIC-DEV :D

Untethered means every time your phone reboots, you don't need it to be plugged into your computer to make it fully start back up. It'll keep the jailbreak every reboot.

Tethered means every time you reboot your phone, it needs to be hooked up to your computer so you can keep your jailbreak.

what does untethered mean here?

Its stored to the Flash/NAND of the device and not loaded into RAM which is lost on reboot.

Essentially, once jailbroken theres no screwing around - it will be jailbroken every time the device reloads the OS.

Pardon my ignorance doesn't redsnow/similar ones do the same?

Yes, but right now redsnow requires access to the iOS 4.2 beta 3 IPSW file, and needs the iOS 4.2 SSH blobs stored.

So greenpos0n opens it up to more people, and means you won't have to illegally download stuff (the iOS 4.2 beta 3 file) to jailbreak.

Remember people, if you're relying on an unlock (using T-Mobile or any other SIM carrier) remember you need a Mac and PwnageTools and create your own custom firmware to save your baseband. Find more info here:

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
