FTP and Mobile Me

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So, I'm in the process of revamping my website and photo-galleries + albums etc.

Getting photos onto MobileMe is such a headache. It could be because of my sometimes faulty internet connection, but I've experienced the same problems using an Ethernet as well.

Firstly: Photos take SOO long to upload. And half the time they "fail" and you have to click the little "retry" button for every photo that has failed. If I'm uploading near 1000 photos this is a pain.

Secondly: Is there no way to use an FTP with Mobile Me? Because that would solve near all my problems.

In short: I need to know what the FASTEST way to upload to mobile me is.

And also, whether or not it is easier to use something like iPhoto to create albums and then insert into an iWeb site, or if it's easier to use the "MobileMe" galleries feature. (It seems stupid that I'd use the iPhoto method OVER something I PAY for, but it's such a headache in the first place...)

Thanks,

Medking

(I'm also open to hearing about how you guys put photos onto your website - in terms of format i.e. galleries or individual pics, and in terms of how you physically upload them / insert them)

In regards to iPhoto and Aperture, I know that. And they also link straight into the iWeb interface, which is quite useful. But they still take forever to upload to MobileMe.

My workflow is generally:

Download photos from Camera to external -> import into Lightroom for processing -> export back to external

I don't keep anything on my mac.

So if I were to use iPhoto to put the photos onto my website my workflow would have two more steps:

Download photos from Camera to external -> import into Lightroom for processing -> export back to external -> import to iPhoto (create album or w/e) -> insert into iWeb

It's not the hardest thing in the world to do, I'm just wondering if there's a faster way to do it.

I'll check out Transmit. Thanks!

OK EDIT:

I'm trialing Transmit.

Is there a way to access the actual MobileMe component or just via iDisk.

Because my problem is technically with the NATURE of MobileMe itself.

IE: I could upload my photos to my iDisk, create some fancy flash gallery, and insert that into my website. But a) that uses up my idisk space, and b) it's easier + less hassle if I drag and drop a MobileMe gallery into the website instead of having to edit xml files etc.

or: I could upload to mobile me and drag and drop in iWeb. (This is what I'd prefer to do)

My Problem is that uploading to mobile me galleries takes forever.

Can transmit get around that?
