medium_pimpin
Just moved to a Samsung Focus from iOS. It's a very sharp phone and slick OS. But there are a lot of apps I think WP7 needs. Thought I'd make a list: neowin Amazon.com VNC/RDP/Logmein client Pandora Radio Mint Finance Skype Proper ESPN client Banking (Chase/BAC/Amex/etc) Texts From Last Night Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/974244-wp7-apps-we-need/ Share on other sites

BajiRav
Just moved to a Samsung Focus from iOS. It's a very sharp phone and slick OS. But there are a lot of apps I think WP7 needs. Thought I'd make a list: neowin : well the mobile site is good enough as soon as MS fixes IE. Amazon.com : I thought they already have one? If not, mobile site is good enough? VNC/RDP/Logmein client : Logmein is apparently in the works Pandora Radio : slacker, last.fm, zune pass, actual FM radio :) Mint Finance : may be, but I try and avoid logging in my financial stuff from mobile. Skype : +1 Proper ESPN client Banking (Chase/BAC/Amex/etc) : I thought BAC already had one? Texts From Last Night : Never used this on iOS, what does it do? In general, I feel this app craze is going out of hand. Not everything needs an app, sometimes having a mobile version of the site/service perfectly serves the purpose. :/ SatNav software like TomTom or CoPilot VLC AT&T's nav is pretty good but comes with monthly fee I think Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/974244-wp7-apps-we-need/#findComment-593678570 Share on other sites
neo158
AT&T's nav is pretty good but comes with monthly fee I think OK, but what about the rest of the world, Bing Maps sucks TBH :/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/974244-wp7-apps-we-need/#findComment-593678842 Share on other sites
George P Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 8, 2011 Lots of those apps would be nice but we'll have to wait for the first big update that is rumored to bring/open up new APIs to 3rd party devs before we can get anything like socket access and so on. There are a few Nav apps in the marketplace already though, I still expect MS to add turn by turn Nav to bing maps at some point though. Personally, I'm not interested in using Bing or Google maps as a replacement for a proper satnav application. I do all my driving abroad and I don't want to be dependent upon a data connection just to get maps. Of course, the other problem at the moment is that most Windows Phones only come with 8GB of memory which is far too little to store maps of Western Europe on along with music, other apps, etc. It's a shame that the socket APIs didn't make it into this month's update considering the fact that they were identified early on as a glaring omission. This is one area where I think Microsoft do need to move faster, especially since the underlying OS already supports everything that's needed. George P Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2011 Global Moderator Share Posted February 8, 2011 That's why I opted for the LG Optimus 7, even though it's got a smaller screen than I would've wanted (3.8" vs 4") it does have 16GB, well, more like 14GB after you take the OS into account, plus the default reserved space is at 10% iirc? So that also takes up a bit, but still, I think maps of all of the EU take up what? 4GB at the most? downhillrider
I'm upset that storm8 and gamevil haven't ported the games. That's the only reason why still have my iPhone 4. I havereal money invested in them Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/974244-wp7-apps-we-need/#findComment-593680324 Share on other sites
MissingBonobo
I want an LED flashlight app for my Samsung Focus. I second the need for an ESPN app. I'd also like to see Diablo 1 ported. I had it on WinMo, want it back :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/974244-wp7-apps-we-need/#findComment-593680938 Share on other sites
