iPAD2 : Long Lines Forming Across the Globe

You stand in line for a movie because you have to queue to get in. If your in a normal queue in a shop because a few people are alos shopping at the same time then thats life.

If your camping outside a store for 5 hours before it opens to get your hands on a product you haven't tested but must have before anyone else then somethings up.

Their point was why wait in line for a movie when you can wait a few months for it to be out on DVD?

Ever heard of fun? Socializing? Doing things for the hell of it? Loving to be the first to do/have something? What's wrong with that? I just don't see the issue. Fine, you don't like that and rather let it be delivered straight to your bed but others don't. So?

Dressing up like an Anime character, acting to be some weird superpowered whatnot with pink hair and meeting with others that look like Zelda is not my cup of tea either. But I do see what might be the fun of it. Doesn't mean I judge those folks and suggest they are stupid.

Man, I'm glad I don't know you in real life. You must love raining on people's parades. I think its right that we question why you feel the need to be a douche to people who like to buy gadgets.

What do you have against "marketing"? Because if you've ever bought anything, you've given in to marketing guys. I can't think of one product in this world that isn't marketed somehow.

And if your response is: well, I didn't buy it because of the marketing, that just means it worked. :)

I still think Im right. Im not someone that sits there insulting people, I just think it says something about us all now days. Its only on a forum such as this that i would say it. Normally I would just, well watch... Im in the wrong forum to ask such a question I guess. Good for you all :)

I can see why people would want to queue up, its the same as midnight launches for games.

I tried a local Comet at 5:30pm, and failed(only 64GB White left), so ordered on Tesco Direct for pickup on Monday, with ?26 off thanks to Quidco and vouchers. :)

I'm expecting Apple to have thousands of online orders cancelled.

I will never be in a long line for anything except maybe concert tickets. Since concert tickets are a limited time only. As far as any other product, I can wait until its restocked.

I have friends that camp out for games at midnight...and I think its stupid. People are just to materialistic these days and got to have it right now. And I know some people who get upset if someone else gets something before them. Damn social statuses. I like having cool stuff to...but I can also do without it and be perfectly fine.

I think standing in line for ANY consumer product, be it an iPad, a phone, a book, a DVD, or a game is utterly daft. If I wanted one that desperately, i'd just pre-order online so that it comes to me on launch day.

Dude, you couldn't pre-order iPad 2. At least in the UK, that is.

I think standing in line for ANY consumer product, be it an iPad, a phone, a book, a DVD, or a game is utterly daft. If I wanted one that desperately, i'd just pre-order online so that it comes to me on launch day.

I think it's a bit daft as well. I mean, what does it hurt to wait a few days/weeks for one anyway?

I could never stand on street in a long line, waiting hours to get any product, not matter if it's the best thing the world has ever know. If I go to a store it's to buy the product and walk away, other than that, I mostly prefer to buy it online without paying taxes, :)

I think I would be doing other things if was in Amsterdam then standing in line to buy something.

:shiftyninja:

Amsterdam isn't the world's largest open air museum or something. People do actually live and work here... ;)

When the online Apple Store started selling the iPad 2 on March 25 at 2 AM it had 2-3 weeks shipping from the get go. Right now it even slipped to 3-4 weeks plus you have to allow an additional week for shipping. There was no pre-order nor did any iPad 2 ship to customers on launch day.

I think it's a bit daft as well. I mean, what does it hurt to wait a few days/weeks for one anyway?

Good for you. (Y) Anyway, the weather was amazing yesterday, people were extremely social, friendly and relaxed (great atmosphere really) and they even handed out drinks and snacks. So if anything it felt more like sitting on a terrace than waiting in line. Not to mention it was a pretty fun experience, in Amsterdam at least, because we didn't take ourselves too seriously. I can imagine waiting in New York City with crowd control measures in place and police everywhere (from what I saw on the pictures and videos at least) is something different altogether.

"MacHouse". Don't you have official Apple Stores over there?

Surprisingly nope, not yet. Word is one will come this year though.

Is this person, WITH an iPad, waiting in line to buy another one? *face palm*

It gets even worse: She also owns a latest MacBook Air and had no plans on selling either one after getting the iPad 2. She was British though, not Dutch. :p

Maybe some people just enjoy standing there with similar minded people, talking about a specific topic and at the end of a day call a brand new gadget their own? What's your goddamn problem with that?

Well said. It was a very nice Spring afternoon actually with a lot of relaxed and social people talking just about anything (not just iPad related topic).

"fluggaenkdechioebolsen".

Que?

I'm a little ****ed at Apple.

I'm in the US and I had better things to do than to wait in line.. besides that, people were already lining up since 2PM on launch day and I work. I placed my order online, but the shipping date is April 14. I'm still about 3 weeks away from getting mind. What got me mad is that BestBuy, wal-mart, and Target stores are getting daily shipments of ipad's. So why the **** wouldn't Apple send me my order I placed on launch day if they can supply these retailers nationwide.

Since it's the weekend, i didn't bother to check since UPS and FedEx don't deliver, but one guy at wal-mart told me they get daily shipments in at noon. So i will be there tomorrow and cancel my online order.

For me it's a first that third-party retailers in Amsterdam received new products before online customers. In the past I always ordered new iPods or Macs online because I would get one sooner than the stores. I'm guessing this time around all stock went to the retailers to create hype?

    • Did you see their FAQ, its quite good. Have a look in the Advanced section. https://delta.chat/en/help
    • Just install Linux Mint that is a real blessing and many times cheaper because you can continue using your old Windows computer/laptop with the latest Linux updates.
    • Interesting share -- however it does not make sense: Email messages get stored somewhere, so how is Delta Chat "based on email" and decentralized without actually storing anything? By Web3 standard practices, the various Relays would require dedicated storage to make messages available to the recipients (like a large series of message queue channels, akin to racks of traditional post office boxes)... and Contacts must be two-way confirmed in order for encryption keys to be exchanged (ostensibly every key-pair is uniquely bound between sender and recipient) and the Relays would preserve the public keys in order to facilitate message carriage... or every device stores all sorts of keys and contact info. All of this to say, decentralized messaging is like running Bluesky nodes except instead of discovering/browsing public feeds by various posters (at the given node) these Delta Chats would be relaying encrypted messages (via Relays) that only trusted recipients would have the appropriate decryption key (their own private key) to read it. But this doesn't solve the "it's like email" sales pitch. The only way it's like email is that there's encrypted binary stuff being transported from your app into the federated ether of Delta Chat Relays for others to decrypt (hopefully only the intended recipient)... but outside of this federated relays framework, it is absolutely nothing like email.
    • Hasleo Backup Suite Free 5.8.2.2 by Razvan Serea Hasleo Backup Suite Free is a free Windows backup and restore software, which embeds backup, restore and cloning features, it is designed for Windows operating system users and can be used on both Windows PCs and Servers. The backup and restore feature of Hasleo Backup Suite can help you back up and restore the Windows operating systems, disks, partitions and files (folders) to protect the security of your Windows operating system and personal data. The cloning feature of Hasleo Backup Suite can help you migrate Windows to another disk, or easily upgrade a disk to an SSD or a larger capacity disk. System Backup & Restore / Disk/Partition Backup & Restore Backup Windows operating system and boot-related partitions, including user settings, drivers and applications installed in these partitions, which ensures that you can quickly restore your Windows operating system once it crashes. Viruses, power failure, or other unknown reasons may cause data loss, so it is a good habit to regularly back up the drive that stores important files, you can at least recover lost files from the backup image files in the event of a disaster. System Clone / Disk Clone / Partition Clone Migrate the Windows operating system from one disk to another SSD or larger disk without reinstalling Windows, applications and drivers. Clone entire disk to another disk and ensure that the contents of the source disk and the destination disk are exactly the same. Clone a partition completely to the specified location on the current disk or another disk and ensure that the data will not be changed. File Backup & Restore Back up specified files(folders) instead of the entire drive to another location to protect your data, so you can quickly restore files(folders) from the backup image files when needed. Incremental/Differential/Full Backup Different backup modes are supported, you can flexibly choose data protection schemes, which can improve backup performance and save storage space while ensuring data security. Delta Restore Delta restore uses advanced delta detection technology to check the changed blocks on the destination drive and restore only the changed blocks, so it has a faster restore speed than the traditional full restore. Universal Restore This feature can help us restore the Windows operating system to computers with different hardware and ensure that Windows can work normally without any hardware compatibility issues. Hasleo Backup Suite 5.8.2.2 changelog: Improved creation of bootable media that supports the UEFI CA 2023 certificate Fixed an issue that caused system restore to fail Fixed an issue where file backup could not list drives under Windows ARM64 Fixed an issue that caused backup of MacOS files/folders shared via Samba to fail Fixed an issue that caused "Smart Backup" to not work properly Fixed other minor bugs Download: Hasleo Backup Suite 5.8.2.2 | 39.7 MB (Freeware) Links: Hasleo Backup Suite Website | Hasleo Backup Suite Guide | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
