The Fish Dies in the End for iPhone - Out NOW!

Recommended Posts

And here's some great news: The Fish Dies in the End now has a release date: April 13th! Are you guys ready for some fish-dying action???

I already told you guys on my latest post how fantastic this thread has been so no need to repeat that :D. Please know that it isn't too late to give me feedback about the game. I'm planning more updates after the release and I assure you that every feedback will be considered and any suggestions might make their way to the game in the near future. So, if you have any suggestions, comments or criticisms, don't be shy! Please say it ;).

You are going to lose a sizeable market of potential sales because of the name, it really is as simple as that. This game very much could have appealed to children because of the visual style, but the name, although I realize it is meant to be tongue in cheek and a joke, just is going to instantly make some parents not even consider it.

I also am about to send you a PM with a few questions about the technical side of things, among other things.

Has any of you guys tried the game? I was really looking forward to hearing your thoughts! I already got a lot of awesome feedback that will help me make the future versions of the game much better and I'm sure that you guys can also help me with that.

In other news, The Fish Dies in the End has been featured by Apple today under both the Action and Arcade categories! Here's hoping that this will help with the sales :).

I picked it up last night.

I really like the incredibly simple game mechanics. The press to go up really is very effective. Really nice job. (Y)

I was slightly disappointed to see it was not in iPad resolution though, but that is obviously something down the road you can recreate.

Do you have any plans of recreating the assets to make it a higher resolution?

If you do not have any plans, like the artist you worked with is not available, etc, let me know.

@Valerus: Thanks!

@DirtyLarry: Thanks a lot for playing the game and I'm really happy that you like it :) . I do have plans actually to make an iPad version available in the future, but at the moment I'm more interested in improving this iPhone version as much as I can. If you have any suggestions of things you'd like to see in the game to make it better, please don't hesitate in telling me!

Looks like someone is getting a little bit of exposure :)

Very cool. (Y)

And gutenbergn, I was basically saying if the artist you worked with is not available to do the assets for the game in high resolution for the iPad contact me and I would do it free of charge. Although I do not do much of it nowadays, I have moved on to more of a management role and no longer do development, I am an illustrator who graduated from Parsons in NYC, and I would totally do design for free just so I have a video game I worked on. Or possibly more likely, keep me in mind for your next game. ;)

You guys are fast! I came here to tell you the news about the Joystiq interview and it's here already, really cool :) . Thanks a lot for that, Massiveterra. After the game was cracked the sales numbers became really pitiful so I'm hoping that this exposure will help a bit.

@DirtyLarry: That would be fantastic! Don't you think it would be too much for you to do for free though?

The game was cracked?

Not surprising since pretty much every iOS app gets cracked these days (even the free ones). Sorry to hear your sales are suffering so badly as a result, people who pirate 99 cent apps have a special place in hell reserved for them.

EDIT: Wow, beaten to the punch. Twice. :pinch:

As you guys pointed out, it's almost impossible for a app not to be cracked these days. Since I was releasing a low-profile game I was hoping that it would at least take some time for it to be cracked, but it was less than 1 week! . I didn't get angry or anything because that's just the way it is and there's really nothing to do but it's still kinda sad.

It very well may be, but at the very least I would be interested in hearing what you need and see if I could swing it.

I would definitely need a bit more time then if you were paying someone, there is no doubt about that. But truth is although I am an artist and have been my entire life (I graduated from Parsons in NYC with a degree in Illustration in 1996), I just do not really do much design / art at all these days. I have more of a managerial role now in my career. So it would be an outlet for me to do something more creative, and I would really just be into the whole idea of working on a game. Of course it also depends on how complex the game is, and if it ventures into 3D then I simply just cannot help you, but if it is another 2D platformer or side scrolling game like this one is, like I said, at the very least I would like to hear what you need.

Sorry to hear about the game being cracked hurting sales, that does suck, but unfortunately as you pointed out, it is expected.

Sounds good. (Y)

Hey guys, so after being quite for some time I have some pretty cool news today: The Fish Dies in the End 1.1 - The Fish Strikes Back has been released! For those who don't know the game, it's an undersea, pick up and play game featuring a cute little fish trying to survive as long as possible against all odds. The game has Retina support and is compatible with Game Center (Leaderboards and Achievements). You can check the previous posts on this thread for more information

The new update has been made with the players' suggestions in mind (many of these suggestions made here!) and adds many improvements to the game, including better placement of enemies and obstacles, more dynamic backgrounds, tutorial screens, better performance, and more. Most notably, there are three new power-ups that should provide more variety and entertainment to the players (and some much-needed help, of course!). If you played the game before, consider taking a look at the new version and if you haven't, why don't you try it now?

I updated the first post with new screens and some additional info, so please take a look there if interested. If you try the new version, let me know what you think! It'd be much appreciated.

Best,

Hello friends, I'm just posting to say that The Fish Dies in the End has just been re-released! The new version is a pretty big update with lots of new additions to the game and, most importantly, makes it permanently free-to-play. No excuse not to try it now!

The idea for making the game F2P came a few months ago when we had a special promotion with the brazilian version of the game that was made free for a few days and quickly became the #1 app in the BR App Store with more than 70.000 downloads in less than a week. This seemed like the best way to bring new players to the game, so we immediately started working to release this improved version that you're able to play now. We hope that our friends worldwide can try it and have fun!

It would be great if you guys could play the game and, as always, feel free to let me know what you think!

Best regards.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. The technical specs of the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor M.2 2280 Interface PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0 NAND Flash Samsung V-NAND TLC Controller Samsung In-house Controller Cache Memory Samsung 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM Sequential Read Speed Up to 7,450 MB/s Sequential Write Speed Up to 6,900 MB/s Random Read (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,400,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD1) Up to 80,000 IOPS Operating Temperature 0°C to 70°C Reliability (MTBF) 1.5 Million Hours Endurance 1,200 TBW (Total Bytes Written) Get it at the link below: Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM): $369.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • Glad im on the right boat. Tidal has lots of issues in terms of app and music mix, its worst than spot but its honest. Spot algo is very tendentious and they pess less to artists, so im comfortable with the tidal errors, for now.
    • Tidal won't monetize AI slop music, company says by David Uzondu Image via Tidal Tidal has announced an AI policy aimed at protecting artists and their crafts, as AI music generation tools continue to improve both in speed and quality. According to the music streaming platform, AI-generated music will be accepted, but these tracks will be held to a "higher standard" of content integrity. Next month, the company plans to auto-identify and tag these uploads. Listeners will spot a special icon next to content that algorithms flag as 100% AI-generated starting mid-July, and the platform hopes to expand this tag to partially generated songs as detection tech improves. Any AI music that exploits an artist's voice or likeness will be taken down, and Tidal will immediately block tracks associated with fraudulent activity, which includes artificial streaming and deceptive content that interferes with real creators. And finally, music that's 100% AI-generated will not be monetized. Tidal said there is "ongoing debate" about whether certain licensed synthetic models deserve payouts, so it's possible that this part will change in the future. Streaming platforms are absolutely getting flooded with AI-generated music because of how easy it is to pump out endless tracks every minute. To give you an idea of how "bad" it is, Deezer alone reported that synthetic uploads now make up about 44% of its daily intake, which translates to roughly 75,000 automated tracks hitting its servers every single day. Interestingly, Deezer found most people cannot tell the difference between human and machine creations, with an Ipsos study revealing that 97% of listeners failed to spot the AI-generated tracks. Spotify's CEO recently pushed back against listeners who call AI music "slop," urging people to stop using the term and instead embrace the creative potential of AI music. The Swedish platform partnered with Universal Music Group to test "legal and controlled" generative AI tools that let subscribers remix songs with AI.
