Tabbed Word Processor?

This is an idea that came into my head recently, and I'm curious if anyone would know of anything relating to the idea. I'd like to see a tabbed word processor, but I do not know of one. Surely other people would approve of the same idea? If anyone knows of such a piece of software for Windows, please post here! I'd be very willing to use one if I could find it.

Whats the point, why would you have so many word documents open at once that would necessitate a tabbed word processor?

I'm confused. Do you mean like the tabs in the ribbon in office 07/10?

No he means tabs like in a browser so you can have loads of word documents open at same time just like websites.

I mean tabs like those inside a web browser. While Jenson raises a good point I think it'd be a niche that would be worth filling, all the same. I know I'd appreciate such a piece of software.

Haven't tried it myself (never had the need), but there is an addon available for Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010, although supposedly buggy with the backstage in 2010. Not sure on OpenOffice, but wouldn't surprise me if there was.

Literally as soon as I posted, I found the addon you're talking about. It's on this page, and it's called 'Tabs for Word'. Thanks for the response, and I think this thread can be closed now. :)

MS Word 97 sort of had tabs, you could load multiple documents and they would appear minimized in the bottom of the window.

I haven't used it on windows, but I have on Linux. It's a decent word processor.

gVim can be a word processor. It has tabs.

Notepad++ supports multiple documents opened at the same time. It's not exactly MS Word but I think it's the closest you'll get to a tabbed word processor at the moment. Maybe give that a try?

This program works with Microsoft Office as well as many others. The trial version of WindowTabs is limited to three tabs per group with no time limit or nag screens.
