BBC micro, LOGO and the Turtle

Question

Who here is old enough to remember the BBC Micro. And who remembers using LOGO to command the turtle on the floor on a big sheet in the classroom to draw shapes. I stumbled across this article and my childhood came screaming back. :D

Remembering: The BBC Micro

I miss it

In my attic i have a BBC Master, with monitor.

When i was in school, in primary we had one BBC for the entire school, so it was rare we saw it. By the time i got to middle school, they were phasing them out for the Archimedes.

All we used them for was the education adventure games.

On the BBC i used to spend hours on Castle Quest. I still never got out of that jail. I loved Repton too.

I have at least 1 BBC B and 1 BBC Master in the loft right now. I also cut my programming teeth on the BBC at school, and an Electron at home after progressing from a ZX80 which I also still have. Great machine, and there is still a thriving support community out there for them.

I think I'm on the border of being old enough to remember...because my uncle's BBC Micro was handed down to me.

Remember spending MANY MANY hours playing Chuckie Egg and Repton (one of the cheat codes was terrapin i think lol).

Also remember writing this weird code that would bring up text on multiple colours...that fascinated me for a while lol.

And yep, I remember LOGO at school.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
    • I guess we are done since you refuse to read my comment you replied to or my other comment in another thread you were also a part of here.
    • I hate Slack, but Teams is much worse - maybe they've already optimized it, but it was a huge slog the last time I've checked about half a year ago. I miss my Skype.
    • Just ended up switching to Ubuntu. Not sure why I waited.
