Thanks everyone for your help and everything. Hiren's BootCD is pretty awesome, I'm hanging on to that disc from now on. I got the database off and am going to set up the temporary computer now. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade the machine later this year.

I did check to see if I could disable AHCI, but there was no mention of it in the Bios, so I don't think this particular machine supported it... A shame, it would have been easier...

Thanks again everyone for all of your helpful posts. I really appreciate them.

Just fyi, Hiren's CD is technically illegal... it uses software that requires a license. Last time I checked, you couldn't download it via HTTP, and had to go through torrents.

I'm not really judging either way, but if you're the sort of person who cares about that, a good, free/legal alternative is Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD)

You can get it here: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

personally, I prefer UBCD anyways, because it has a much more fleshed-out suit of diagnostic tools then Hiren's CD. Hiren's CD might be better for actually fixing stuff though, I'm not really sure.
