Which Alternative Browser?

Question

Hi,

Just wondering what alternative browsers other people use, and find nicer than IE. Im currentley using Opera but i was just wondering if maybe there others out there that could be better? I really like how Opera lays out the sites :) I tried Mozilla but it seemed a little too basic and IE like, i didnt really rate it much.

And as not to make a big deal out of it like some other people here..

Post 2K. :)

Congrats and here's a quiet 2000.gif

and another vote for firebird from me as well (Y)

I never seem to have the big memory drain that some others do,

always have at least 4 Tabs open on Neowin and one with a google search.

Yeah, one of the best memory suckers. A browser doesn't need 48 MB of memory to run. It's ridiculous. Stay with Opera 7.11.

Well if you look at this ss of the task manager I have both IE and Mozilla Firebird with neowin.net loaded in a maximized window and they use the same amount of memory

gee, that looks like more than my browser when it's maximized ;)

sitting around and debating ram usage won't really solve anything. my computer is tweaked out to insane levels, and i use around 40MB of ram on startup - my brother's machine is tweaked *exactly* the same way, with almost identical hardware, but he can never get down past 70MB.

it just boils down to which one does the things that you like, performs best for the sites you visit, and in the case of opera, whether or not you want to pay for it.

Always used avant browser because its better tabbed browser than MyIE2. But after seeing all the votes for Firebird, I decided to give it a try. Took a while to configure it, installing all the needed extentions, but I think I got it to look very close to Avant browser. The webpages loads a tad slower than IE, but its not that bad. I'm still trying to figure out how to add an Ad blocker toggle on/off button to the standard tool bar, if someone knows how, please let me know. But so far, I think I'll switch to Firebird for a week or so and see if I like it more than Avant Browser. I like list of extentions it has, you can pick what you want, makng it less bloated cause you can leave out features you don't want. As for memeory usage, its using 28MB on my computer with just neowin openned.

    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
