Bogdan Calapod
I'm having troubles setting up a WDS service. I've recieved a network media player for my living room downstairs. Unfortunately, besides USB and eSATA, the only thing it knows it's Ethernet. No WiFi. In my house I have a wireless ASUS router upstairs with DD-WRT installed on it, and works flawlessly. I also have an Edimax router (BR-6204WG) which sits unused in my closet (it works perfectly). So, in order to connect the media player with my network's Samba server (which I hold in my garage) I've tought about setting up the Edimax router to take the wireless signal from the ASUS router as the WAN (internet, modem, whatever) signal, and then connect the media player to it. I've figured out either WDS or a network repeater would be my best choice for this. Setting up the WDS as instructed by many tutorials found on Google, the Edimax router has no internet signal. I haven't managed to connect the Edimax as a Point-to-Point repeater. I've tought about installing DD-WRT on the Edimax router (it'd be much easier) or any other firmware such as Tomato, but I can't find it on support pages anywhere. I'm out of luck. Do you have any suggestions so as to add my Ethernet-only network media player to my network? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/999338-network-repeaterwds-setup-with-two-routers/ Share on other sites
BOOYAH
I definitely think you should install ddwrt on it. But I also strongly suggest you consider a fully wired option. I was running my wdlive like that and I found it skippy on the HD streaming and FF RWD functions. Now on wired i will never look back. Did the same for ps3 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/999338-network-repeaterwds-setup-with-two-routers/#findComment-594005844 Share on other sites
Roger H. Veteran Posted May 22, 2011 Veteran Share Posted May 22, 2011 You could do Client mode if DD-WRT is supported. Also if that other router is Broadcom based you wont get it talking to a Atheros on via WDS (and vice-versa). So what's the full model number of the devices then we could see what options you've got. All the data that I could get from them: Edimax - Model BR-6204WG (Also has this written below, don't know what it is: BR6204WG78CA03167) FCC ID - NDD9562040709 with original firmware Asus - Model WL-520GC with DD-WRT Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) micro I don't think that the Asus model has problems, the only thing would be with the Edimax one. From what I've seen on the interwebs, it isn't supported by DD-WRT (obviously DD-WRT would have been my first choice) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/999338-network-repeaterwds-setup-with-two-routers/#findComment-594005884 Share on other sites
