Windows 8 Install issues - laptop

Recommended Posts

So a 400$ acer (Aspire V3-731) was purchased with win8 and obviously lots of unwanted stuff.

Used for 24h and had to format and here lies the issue --- within bios has the secure UEFI

After formatting a USb making it Fat32 and dumping win8 folders in it, boots up fine, format drive and it goes 3/4 through install till first boot upon which it BSOD with IRQL not less or equal then on subsequent boots gives the error *in rough English as I have sworn at it while dumping copious amounts of beer in my body) --- Install did not finish and reboot to reinstall windows

Before I went on a rampage though I thought I would give Win7 a go and have found not only did it install issue free but it also ran fine --- updates done and drivers installed flawless ... no BSOD

so ... question: WTF is wrong ... got 2 versions of RTM 8 (did not burn on DVD though) and both have same issue but win 7 works ok. Driver instability --- as in some Intel Chipset?

any thoughts on how to reinstall win8 on this laptop?

Unfortunately I can't help. I'm only posting to say you're not the only one.

My main desktop has major issues with Win 8 but I'm currently running Win 7 on it with no issues (and no additional drivers added to it)

Well I think I kinda figured it out as seeing from win8 desktop showing up fine on the laptop --- it was a case of User is an idiot and did not run the proper boot for win8 on key ...

for everyone else that is having issues you can follow these steps to create a boot key (Secure boot for new win8) --- Note: same steps for x86/64 however, for x64 you need a 64bit system to create the USB - I think

Step 1. Open up command prompt (CMD) but with admin privileges (otherwise some steps will not work)

Type the following (Enter after each command):

DISKPART

LIST DISK

SELECT DISK # (select your usb flash drive - careful as formatting will be involved don't cry if you wipe clean your pr0n stach)

CLEAN

Convert GPT

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

SELECT PARTITION (in this case is only 1 partition, however as this can be for drives in general, you can add the lartition # by sending LIST PARTITION and then select th proper #)

ACTIVE

FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICK (of course you can also choose NTFS but the secure boot will not work --- could be wrong)

ASSIGN (use this only if the newly formatted drive does not appear in (My) Computer)

EXIT (will exit diskpart but leave the CMD window open)

Step 2. Load win 7 into your dvd

Step 3. Now go back to cmd if you left it open or reopen a new cmd (run the CMD as admin)

Type the following:

cd D: (whatever letter your cd/dvd drive is assigned - it can be virtual don't matter, if you open the ISO with winzip extract all in 1 folder)

D:

CD BOOT (go to the folder BOOT on the rom media)

BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 J: (J = usb flash drive in this case)

now that is done go copy all the files from the ISO to the USB drive but if you can remember this command (I almost never do- use it)

XCOPY D:\*.* J:\ /E /F /H (where D = media drive, but if you copy from folder better cd your way to it and use *.* and J is the USB drive ... all other stuff don't care much)

Or, you could just use this :p

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
