win8 How long can you go without activating Windows 8?

How long can you go without activating Windows 8? I installed the final version in a VM on September 18 and nothing has been crippled.

I beleive unactivated Windows OSes are limited to customization and will shut down after 30 or so minutes.

I can customize it and I ran it for longer than 30 minutes.
