Carmack on the Tarmac

We're using this title because it rhymes and makes us feel superior to you. In reality, this is an exclusive interview of sorts with the man behind id.

As part of CGW's newly redesigned January 2003 issue (now dry leprosy free), there will be a full and complete hands-on preview of DOOM 3. Darren, our only in-office editor with an alcohol problem that's actually in-check, played through a fair bit of the game, grabbed new screenshots, and thoroughly embarrassed himself in a multiplayer match. Look for that bit of informative hilarity on newsstands December 3 (it's the magazine called Computer Gaming World -- the one with DOOM 3 on the cover and a fat DVD loaded with five free games tacked onto the back). Additionally, please find an extended DOOM 3 preview here at 1UP later in December. It'll be all flashed up and super neat. But what about today?

Today, John Carmack, best known as the coder supreme behind id software, talks about DOOM, the best graphics cards, books, and blowing a rocket out of the atmosphere (it would've gone on longer if not for his daily Domino's pizza delivery). We didn't think it necessary to actually ask questions, as that'd be more fluff between the meat that is Carmack (you know you like it), so just imagine the big C in a hammock talking to the clouds; then, imagine us copying it all down and breaking it up into tidy subsections. Now stop imagining and start scrolling down, down, down, down.
