World's tallest Ferris wheel opens

The 550-foot ?High Roller,? the world?s tallest Ferris wheel, opened to the public Monday in Las Vegas. Here's a high-flying gallery of the attraction, with details from the first day.

One-hundred feet taller than the London-eye, and about 10 feet higher than previous world-record-holder, the Singapore Flyer, the High Roller is an instant icon of the Vegas strip.

With 3,600 tons of steel in its triangular supports, 1630-foot circle, 112 cables, and 28 cabins carrying a capacity of over 1,100 people riding simultaneously.

Pretty sure a sheikh in Dubai would soon be convinced into funding an even taller one.

Call me a skeptic, but about 40 people per cabin? That's a lot.

Cabins wouldn't really give you that scared poop-less feeling.

wouldn't mind seeing it from the ground but there is no way you could get me onto that thing.

And it only costs $25 to ride it! :pinch:

I can only hope this Ferris Wheel is an April Fools Day joke.

It's far from a joke, but pretty close to where I live in Las Vegas. It truly is freakin' huge, however, and can be seen from a very long way away. Practically as tall as most of the casinos on the Strip, I've been keeping an eye on it since construction began well over 18 months ago but yep, it's finally done now.

Maybe if they decide to offer us locals a discount on that crazy pricing I might get the Wife down there sometime and check it out, but like most attractions they're designed and priced for tourists with disposable income that travel to Las Vegas to blow it on whatever.

But it is quite a sight to see...

Adult (16+) ?29.50     Child (4-15 yrs) ?29.50     Child (Under 4) FREE     Family of Four* ?118.00

  • Fast track entry
  • 30-minute rotation
  • Samsung interactive capsule guides
  • Entry to 4D cinema experience
  • Complimentary 360? Mini Guide

The above are the prices for London Eye, and what you get for your money.

So, in my eyes $25(?15) isn't all that bad.

From the video it looks like it has a terrible view.. Why bother going on a ferris wheel just to see desert and rooftop. They didn't show view of downtown Vegas in the video but I bet that looks even worse.
