World's tallest Ferris wheel opens

The 550-foot ?High Roller,? the world?s tallest Ferris wheel, opened to the public Monday in Las Vegas. Here's a high-flying gallery of the attraction, with details from the first day.

 

One-hundred feet taller than the London-eye, and about 10 feet higher than previous world-record-holder, the Singapore Flyer, the High Roller is an instant icon of the Vegas strip.

 

With 3,600 tons of steel in its triangular supports, 1630-foot circle, 112 cables, and 28 cabins carrying a capacity of over 1,100 people riding simultaneously.

It's far from a joke, but pretty close to where I live in Las Vegas. It truly is freakin' huge, however, and can be seen from a very long way away. Practically as tall as most of the casinos on the Strip, I've been keeping an eye on it since construction began well over 18 months ago but yep, it's finally done now.

 

Maybe if they decide to offer us locals a discount on that crazy pricing I might get the Wife down there sometime and check it out, but like most attractions they're designed and priced for tourists with disposable income that travel to Las Vegas to blow it on whatever.

 

But it is quite a sight to see...

i saw this last time i was in LV, in Sept 2013. It's a complete eyesore.

From the video it looks like it has a terrible view.. Why bother going on a ferris wheel just to see desert and rooftop. They didn't show view of downtown Vegas in the video but I bet that looks even worse.
